Anybody have this problem? The glass in my towing mirrors is loose. Not so bad on the drivers side, but the passenger side is driving me nuts. Just my driving alone, I have to re-adjust the passenger side about every 100 miles. But the ‘ol lady is a door slammer (she insists it’s because she is used to her heavy door on the mustang) so every time she gets in or out…WHAM there goes my mirror, now I can see my rear wheels real good. I’ve tried to disassemble the mirror, but I can’t get to all the torx screws. At one point I had taken a ¼” rod with 1” bent over at 90* and thought I had tightened a cross type nut or flange inside the ball in socket assembly behind the glass, but that has gone lose again, and no amount of turning it seems to help.

Suggestions anybody?

There was a bad batch from the factory. I had both of mine replaced under warranty. If they do one, see if they will do the good one too and save a trip back to the dealer.

Got Smoke,

Thanks, I will try to get him.

I have wondered about the warranty. I think I just crossed over the 36k, but it should still be covered under my extended.

Anyone know any good dealers/service in Denver CO. The last two that I have gone to have made my special friend list .

On simple intall things like this, would they just supply the parts under warranty, and I do the install myself?

Sticks, try Johnson Auto plaza in Brighton. They replaced one of my mirrors about 18 months ago at 19,000mi no grief. It took a while to get the mirror they were on backorder.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I will get a hold of the Brighton Dealership tomorrow. If they won’t replace them then I will look into repair.

Aside from the occasional raised blood pressure from panic, and fits of depression due to lack of BOMBing funds, joining the TDR has been one of the better things that I have done in a long time.

If they can't be fixed under warrantee, you'll have to remove the glass to get behind it to fix it.

Here's a couple of pictures of what it looks like underneath. I used a hair dryer to heat the glass and loosen up the adhesive and silicone holding it on.

Just tap the holddown with to tighten it up. The holddown is the star shaped thing in the pictures. I used liquid nails to keep in in place.

Thanks. I may say screw the dealer and try that. Now that I know what it looks like inside, I should be able to get the glass off. It doesn't look like there was a whole lot of OEM glue to hold the glass on. I was unsure of it's design, so I did not want to try popping the glass off for fear of breakage. Then I would have to get a new one.

I got one piece of glass of without breaking it, the other one cracked.

Luckily, they are a simple piece of flat mirror glass and any decent glass shop should be able to cut a new one for less than $20 a side.

In the pictures you can see those wavy impressions in the plastic, those had a glob of silicone adhesive holding the mirror on. It was tough to get it off without breaking.

I tried to get my dealer to replace my mirrors after the glass fell right out of the passenger side, unfortunatly it was the curved small piece, stealer said not covered under extended warantee... . so now I have a big black hole on the mirror:(

They wanted 300 or so to replace the whole thing... . no thanks... .

Would more heat for a prolonged period of time help? If anything, they seem to be made of a high strenght plastic. I could just put them on the oven at about 150* while the wife is at work. The plastic should hold up, but weaken the glue enough to pop the glass.

My drivers side mini mirror is also broke. I found them to be insufficent anyway, so I put a 3"x4" spot mirror over both of them. Now I know for sure it is a Yugo in my blind spot, not a dead fly on the mirror.

I bought my truck and had it serviced at Broadway Dodge on Broadway and Bellview in Littleton. Also had good service. They even did the TSB to lower the back end for 5er towing under warranty.

I have had the passenger side mirror replaced twice now under warranty... no problems so far with the last one.
