A while back, I noticed that the steering wheel in my '98 4x2 12v (5-speed man. ) was binding against the plastic column cover. It wasn't hard to steer, just "sticky" when making small inputs while driving down the road. Turned out the wheel is loose - it wiggles up and down (or side-to-side) at least 1/4". Following manual instructions, I removed the airbag to see if the nut was loose, but in fact, it was tight, and the shaft wiggles with the wheel. It's hard to imagine that I could have a bad bushing with only 86K miles, but I can't think of anything else. Any other ideas?

Whistle; Brave Man, working on or around an air-bag is something like working on a time bomb. Somebody makes a tough plastic bushing that goes into the steering shaft housing and holds the shaft from wobbling. I bought one but don't remember the name of it. I have not yet installed it waiting for cooler weather (I live in Florida now) and it is still on a shelf in my garage. use my e-mail address and I will send you what you want to know if you want to go that route. -- email address removed --
