loose tailgate

Any of you experience problems with a loose tailgate? How did you remedy the problem? Or did you?

When I go over small bumps you can hear that thing rattle and bang and make lots noise. I can remove the tailgate and go back over the same bumps. No banging noise. Have performed this experiement several times. I am pretty sure this is it. Also if I grab the tailgate just standing there, it seems solid and tight, however its heavy enough, and high enough in the air to be hard to really tell.

Hey Fred--Mine was the same way so I adjusted the pins that the latch snaps over. There is one on each side. They are a torx type[dont remember which size]. You can loosen them and move them in to make the gate latch tight up against the rubber bumpers. ---Sam

Hi Sam,

This fixed it up much better. Now the tailgate is in far enough to make it so its not flush with the corners of the bed. Its in quite a bit. I think I am gonna replace the rubber bumpers and re-adjust. See if I can get the noise quiet and have it fit right. This will definately get me by in the mean time. Thanks

Sly - I bought 17' of "tail gate" rubber from JC Whitney. Not only did it stop the tail gate bang - it keeps all the dust from getting under my tonneau cover.

I have a several hundred dollar solution...

Get a spray in bed liner... After I did, the darn gate will barely latch. No vibration anymore... .
