Had a head gasket let go about a month ago, head checked and milled . 011 and . 010 gasket put on now ole Thumper seems to be pushing water out at the cap, will use about 3/4 gallon in 100 miles or so the coolant overflow tank isn't running over but when you shut it down you can hear water/air going back to the overflow tank,it did that with the blown head gasket,Is this normal,Any suggestions like something simple hopefully not a cracked head or gasket. Thumper is headed back to see his friendly mechanic Steve at the dealer today poor baby, poor me,cry cry NO Cummins to hear or smell or feel the POWER Help

Don't know the answer to your question but I am curious, how much boost are you running and what is your timing set at. I top out at 43 pounds boost and timing is at 15. 5. I have been told by several that I need to drastically increase my timing to get the temps under control and take advantage of the longer fuel pulse. I have heard that 25 degrees is being used regularally on some daily drivers even while towing and 30+ is used on extreme HP pullers. At the extreme levels I was told that the egines do develop head sealing problems but the 1997 and later engines do well at 25 degrees. I was thinking about going up to 18 or 20 degrees and seeing how the temps are at that level.

I'm at 18. 5 degrees, tried 21 but had some knocking noises, can't compare egt's i've changed to a 16 housing since then, but egt can get out of hand quick but thats what the gauge is for. I did see a drop in temps from 15 to 18. 5 and boost is 43# like yours. I would like to try an ats manifold but hate to spend the bucks.

ramman, the injection timing at 18. 5 is a little harsh for your engine. I really feel that anything over 16. 5 unless using low compression pistons is just increasing cylinder pressure. The symptoms you list suggest a tweaked head gasket. You might want to have your block checked while the head is off. I had to hone my block by hand using a very large stone when mine blew. The burbling sound is compression sneaking past the fire ring into the water jacket. It finds its way out through the overflow jug.
