I recently upgraded from mini-packs to the full Dual Purpose Leafs on my Lorenz 2. 25 SAW kit and man-o-man... . what a difference! The new leafs are a HUGE increase in ride quality over the minipacks. I wish I would have gone with the upgrade right off the bat. Good work Sean!

I too just put on the new Dual purpose leafs and the 5100 shocks on a 2006. Jeff you said it "What a difference!".

I'm very happy with Lorenz. . But now the front end feels like the weak link. The stock front is cushy and controllable with the improved shocks but it will bottom long before the rear end does. The back feels like it never bottoms in normal driving.

Jeff, what is your opinion of just the front with the stiffer front coils? Is your highway ride the same or better than stock?

Also does anyone know how the stiffer coils provide more clearance for tires? Isn't the stock travel limiter still in use and the new stiffer coils just add more preload to hold the truck higher in the stroke?

Also anyone know what happens when people add a coil spacer lift kit to gain clearance for large tires, are they bottoming the spring out against itself long before they hit the bumper pad? Otherwise where is the extra room for a big tire coming from when they bottom out?

Thanks

I have Lorenz's IR Coils. They have really improved the front end ride as well. They are 3" taller than stock and will clear 35's no problem ;)

Are they taller because of more preload? Don't they still bottom at the same spot on the bumper pad or do you have a taller pad?

If so will a 35" fit with the stock suspension?

How do the Lorenz compare with these super springs I see on Mr Truck ?

errrr. can't get the link to save here - sorry. Its at ... ... MrTruck.com

Lorenz springs are an 11 leaf where the stock is a five. The thinner leafs are more compliant. The rear of the truck will actually move now when you push down.

Stock you hit the overload leaf in about an inch and the rate ramps up fast. Great for a heavy load but not so good empty. The Mr. truck spring looks like an additional overload for heavy loads. You will get a rough ride if the wieght is so great that you are on the bumpstops.

I just got the dual leafs on my truck as well, and it's made a big difference compared to stock. I agree with the above--now the front feels like it needs a little more work.

Question for you guys,

Do you tow?

I've been planning on the 2. 25saw w/dual purpose leafs... I tow a TT with my truck... I currently have air bags on the rear. will I need them or are the leafs enough with the bump stops in and overloads engaged?

Mike

If you need the bags now you will still need them after the leafs. To take advantage of all of the rear travel you will need Carli long travel air bags. Bob4x4 has pics.

Keep the air bags on.

I just received my Lorenz Dual Purpose rear leaf springs.

What tips/hints are there to install smoothly? I have plenty of floor jacks and jack stands and air tools.

Where is the best place to put the jack stands?

Is there room enough to use an impact gun to remove the spring eye bolts?

Will attempt to do the install this Friday after work.

Thanks.

The number 1 biggest tip is to have a helper. Those springs are pretty heavy to try to wrestle into place by yourself! Everything else will fall in place...

Standard air bags will not work if you do any off road driving. They limit travel too much. BajaBob replaced his Firestone bags for the Carli and was VERY happy with the improvement.

I have at least one friend (Chevy owner) who will be helping me.

I'm hoping to do this in about a 3 hour time frame. I'm thinking it should be doable. Need time to drink some beverage afterwards (of course - not during). :)

The dual purpose leafs are 3/4 ton rated. So, if you have a 3500, you will need bags to meet/exceed your stock carrying weight.

QUESTION: What is the load rating of the Carli long-travel bags?

thanx,

ron

I never asked any rating #s but I only use 15 psi with my 750lb tw and the bed full of camping gear, firewood. and generator. That is with the Carli full spring pack.

I'm carrying a 2000# camper 24/7 on my truck with Lorenz mini-paks and Carli bags set@ 30#. I am going to lower the psi to 25#. Carli's product is a quantum leap over Firestone's. Somehow I get the improved freeway stability, increased travel, and a relaxed highway ride with the Carli's. Good product. :)

I'm really hoping this is true, because I have a set of long travel Carli bags in my office waiting to go on; however, I noticed that the air bag says "Firestone" on it... are Carli bags really a Firestone bag redisgned to different specs?

I glad you brought that up. Could you take some close pics and post?
