I'm also putting together an air system to run the bags with in cab control, as well as be able to have on-board air for airing down offroad. Here's a picture of the compressor and solenoid valve assembly... an inflate solenoid and deflate solenoid for each bag. I've got a 5-gallon red anodized tank, and a dakota digital display with electrical pressure senders, and a couple SPDT switches. Note also the 5 psi check valve on the exhaust side of the solenoids to prevent pressure from every dropping below 5 pounds on the bags.

Hope this helps...

yes it does help. I am looking to help people out that already have firestone kit to convert to long travel without spending lots of money. I think Carli sourced parts and put this "long travel" kit together. I can hold my own on the Bridgeport and lathe I dont think this will be a prob.

If he would have sold just the bags to me this would not have been brought up.

Eric, thanks for posting the pics; Nice set-up!!
Do you know where you are going to mount the compressor and relay?<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I believe I'm going to mount them on the outside of the frame rail on the passenger side. I made a diamond plate aluminum and angle enclosure to protect the OilGaurd bypass filter I have, and plan on doing something similar to protect the compressor and solenoids from the weather somewhat.

I'll post pics when I'm done, but it'll probably be a month or two...

Lorenz

I just received my Lorenz leveling kit with the dual-purpose springs today. In the instructions Lorenz mentions that if you don't properly line up the rear springs the truck will "dog track" anybody have this issue?

I will be installing this on a 2006 4WD 2500. Thanks, Mark

Make sure the center pin in the leafs get placed into the center hole in the axle. If you miss the center hole of the axle then you'll have tracking issues.

Rated Cap Of Carli Bags

I'm carrying a 2000# camper 24/7 on my truck with Lorenz mini-paks and Carli bags set@ 30#. I am going to lower the psi to 25#. Carli's product is a quantum leap over Firestone's. Somehow I get the improved freeway stability, increased travel, and a relaxed highway ride with the Carli's. Good product. :)

I contacted Carli and they stated that their bags are rated at 2,500 a piece. That is well over the rated 1 ton capacity.

Looking at the bags -- I wonder what is inside those bags to MSRP for $850? A couple gallons of diesel:-laf

Carli airbags.

The bags are first rate and mounting hardware fits and is powder coated. Difference is in the ride. Equal load stability but a softer ride over Ride Rites (increased travel?). Don't ask me how, just my impressions.

Part of the way an airbag works is hidden on the inside. If you look at the bags on the big rigs the cones that make up the lower atatching point are tuned to the application, getting this right is very important. Many of the bag systems available have little to no r&d for ride quality. The Long travel bags from Carli have been tested and revised till Sage was happy with the entire pkg.

I can tow my trailer out to the killer camp spots totally level then un-hook and run with the pre runners across the dez all in one truck Oo. Oo.

i have two question about the topic leafs.....

i'm going to do this mod and have been reading alot... thanks for all your posts by the way... Lorenz's springs seem to be the best fit for me but a couple others relocate the axle back a touch centering the wheel in the well a little better... i like the idea.

1. do the Lorenz Dual Purpose leafs do this?

2. and what kind of lift from stock are you all seeing with these leafs?

it will either be Lorenz or Thuren for me but it's a trade off either way. with Lorenz i don't have to buy timbrens or supersprings to haul heavy. which is almost never for me. and with Thuren i get my wheel centered in the well. the Carli springs seem to do both but they lift the rear too high for me. i intend to keep stock height or as close as i can get anyway.

i need to haul so rarely that crawling under the truck to add something to compensate for a soft spring and remove it when i'm done isn't a big deal.

thanks, j

Not sure Don Thuren has his own line of rear springs -- he recommended the Carli rear springs to me w/Timbrens. Both Lorenz and Carli leaf systems are rated as "moderate duty" 3/4 ton leafs. If you look closely, you will see the Lorenz springs probably are "cushier" than Carli's offering - leaf count in the "swell-ride" section v. leaf count in the load section. Sean Lorenz even states on his site that if you run around w/750# continuously you should consider air bags. If you "use" your rig, you will either need bags or Timbrens with their spring offerings.

I think you can remove leafs from the Lorenz DP leafs - as leafs go, so does load carrying - but bags/Timbrens will more than make up the diff. Removing leafs get you about 1" lift in the rear. Range (I think) is 1 to 1. 5 inch (Sean's website gives all the info). I don't think the Carli's are "adjustable" as far as taking leafs out to adjust ride height(?).

BOB4x4 - I must say, your Carli suspension is quite sweet! Thanks for all the cool pics.

You are more than welcome to buy just bags from us. But where would that leave you? You would still have to come up with the brackets, put them together, and powdercoat them. You would have to source out your diff vent breather line relocation, cycle your suspension to make sure you are not holding up any travel, and get all your fittings and airlines. By the time you actually put the whole thing together you would not wind up much cheaper than our kits. But if you are stubborn in that way give us a call and we'll sell you the bags alone. But most of the cost is in the bags. And no we do not manufacture them. Yes we sourced them. But if you actually look at what goes into putting them together you would understand. Even our supplier has to have Firestone actually band the bags for them because Firestone is the only one with the equipment. Just having the lathe and mill doesn't mean you can make these bags... ... ...

The springs you are referring are not being built anymore from what I have been told,
