Is there a reason why neither of the shock companies use a heat dissipating coating on the shock bodies as well as the resi's, I know in the drag racing world they use this type of coating exclusively on manifolds, blocks and cylinder heads with dramatic results. I dont see why it wouldn't work on our shocks.

Hey JTNM,

Not trying to bother you, but I am anxiously awaiting your install... did you have a chance to start on it this weekend? --Eric

Install Complete

I spent Sunday afternoon getting my Lorenz 2. 25 kit with dual purpose leafs installed by myself, WOW was it a smooth install.

First off started with the rear leafs, the stockers were a breeze to take out but I recommend a buddy to help you with the dual purpose leafs to save on your back these bad boys are heavy but will be well worth the back ache. I did set them upside down on the axle then turned them over which was easier on me. Shox went in after both leafs were in and charged shox with 200 psi at full droop.

The front was easier than my 05 as far as lowering the axle to remove the coil stockers and install the 3" IR coils. The 07 seemed to ME to lower more than the 05. Did one side at a time the first coil just fell out after lowering the axle, I did not remove the stock shock off the tower I just simply compressed it with and pushed up enough to remove thru the fender well. On a side note... . I did notice the LZ Tower design was changed slightly... a wrench was easier to get on the nut on the 3 bolt ring to tighten the LZ tower onto the bucket. The IR coil just slide right in. The other side putting the IR coil I did use a pry bar to help slide it in. Just alittle pressure was all it needed to help it in . Drilling the holes for the limit straps and welding the tabs on the axles was n o problems. The fender well liners did not have to be cut as I did with the 2. 5 system. All in all it was a smooth install.

I got lift in the rear & 3" in the front. Truck looks sweet now and level but I am going to have to do something about those weenie factory michelins:-laf .

So far I drove about ten miles on it since the install, its only been 1 day. Leaving my house I live on a dirt road, on the last curve on the road there is a little stretch of wash boards... driving over them my truck did not fish tail anymore. Getting on the highway was a lot smoother. This is all I can tell you about the ride since I did not get a chance to take it out to the hills yet to put some miles on it. I will post up more about the ride and performance after I get more miles on the truck, I only have 1200 miles total on the truck currently.

Here is the before & after pictures and thru out the install.

Hey Bob... i looked it up... Greg sold it to you at our cost.

And Rusty's post may be in poor taste, but it was funny.

Bob4X4,

There on to you Bob :-laf :-laf

He did the same to carli :-laf :-laf

He has no loyalty.

If he can get it for free or cost he will change his tune on a dime:-laf :-laf

Hey thanks for the great install pictures! Have you got any more miles on it yet? How does it do offroad/on road compared to the 2. 5 system? --Eric

So how much lift resulted in the rear with those dual purpose springs? I am a little fuzzy on the operation of those dual purpose springs - just looking at them, and the removeable "bumpers", it seems the spring would have to compress pretty far to reach the second stage. Am I missing something?

Take a look here for a complete discription on how the DP leafs work. http://lorenzindustries.com/products_leafs.html I've had a couple of questions on how the bumpstops are removable and haven't updated the site with pics of the "E" clips we're now using.

You can use your ignition key to pop the "E" clip in and out. No tools needed. Half the battle in the begining was finding a socket or wrench to take the locking nut of the bumpstop. We've eliminated the nut and tools, and now use the "E" clips.

Just to add another $. 02 worth -- I did my install last Friday (finishing up Saturday afternoon) and it went very smooth as well.

I installed a Thuren track bar (that I had powdercoated) along with the Lorenz 2. 25 system (with the DP springs. ) Not a difficult install at all unless you count lifting those d@mn DP springs (yes, I had to get a buddy too!)

The ride is fantastic! I now love the speedbumps by my house... ;)

Don't have any pics yet (mostly 'cause I'm lazy) but I'm running 37" Toyos on stock wheels with the Lorenz kit & Thuren trackbar. This is on a white 1 ton diesel (2004. 5). If you're in the San Diego area you'll know it if you see the license plate that might make you think of 'Star Wars' (although it has a different meaning... )

Very happy with my Lorenz kit!

Regards,

Mark

OK OK OK…. so far I have 721 miles on the dirt since the install of the 2. 25 kit. I have gotten the truck out when I could after work if I had time out behind my house & a few weekends of playing all day all over the county.

First off I went to the same road I first ran the truck with stock suspension previously stated on post #12, to see the difference WOW it was like night & day. I was back to running 60 mph+++ on the same road:-laf. One thing to remember I am still running the stock Michelin tires. I left the factory tire pressure @ 60 psi. I did notice a slight fish tail at higher speeds on washboards in a turn & on straight-a-ways. That problem was eliminated with bringing tire psi down to 40 psi. Once I get some gnarly mud tires on the truck it will change the ride on the small pot holes & wash outs across the road since these weenie stock Michelins drop farther down in the holes as to where the big meats will roll right over.

Last weekend I took out the boss (my wife) to see if I get the stamp of approval. Usually with her in the truck I slow it down but this time I did not let up. When we go out to the hills most of the time she is nagging at me to slow down & squirming in the seat. She actually at times was complimenting how well the truck was soaking up the terrain, caught me by surprise. I figured here we go nagging time. On a few small jumps she had her head hanging out the window to see how much air we were getting. Anyways she was happy with the truck all weekend & gave her stamp of approval & thumbs up;).

I also have had some times running the truck for 50 minutes to an hour at one time hauling butt & thrashing. I would get out to feel the shocks after this. They were warm to the touch, not hot. In talking with Sean, he says I would not need to worry about fading for a few hours or more. Hence the reason why I chose the 2. 25 kit for my personal truck as I will not need the capability of the 2. 5 shocks.

As far as comparing to the 2. 5 kit they ride the same to me both are awesome on & off road. For some of you apples for apples they are not the same, the 2. 5 truck had 35s mini packs & more bed weight, 2. 25 truck stock rubber, DP Leafs & empty bed. The 2. 25 has taken everything I have dished out. I have run it in the same country I drove the 2. 5 in.

Oh I forgot I took the 2. 25 to my favorite jump out behind my house. The 2. 5 would compress more in the rear due to the weight in the bed but not bottoming out and the 2. 25 seemed more controlled in the landing with an empty bed in the rear. The 2. 5 was a smooth landing too.

I know it's only been 700 hundred miles on the kit take it as you will. There will defiantly be many many more miles to come & updates.

I highly recommend this kit to anyone looking for a controlled ride on & off road and wanting more from there truck.

Thanks

Your next to last pic in #109 makes it look as the truck might sit a bit lower in the back, not level. Is there some kind of load in there, or is it just an illusion? I like everything I've seen so far, but pics of the Lorenz systems elsehwere made the trucks look pretty much level, while unladen. Level is what I want, so I'd appreciate your insight.

Id be careful when it comes to jumping with the 3rd gen trucks:eek::eek:

Several guys in our club including Bob4X4 bent there front axle housing and spent big bucks replacing them:-laf:-laf:-laf

The truck is level, I actually put a level on the concrete to verify the truck was on level ground. I also had the level on the top of bed rails, on the frame in the rear, bottom of the window frame, and the body lines, the level showed the rear to be slightly higher than the front. I know it is not super accurate but you can see the rake with the line of the facia & window in the back ground.

Look at what the UPS man brang me today!

Ordered me a Zinc Plated trac bar from Lorenz. The wheels are centered back up on the front view. Got it installed this evening and tomorrow take her for a spin to see the results.
