my 98 is losing coolant but i dont know where its going. i dont see any visible leaks and i cant smell it. the reason i say its loseing fluid is because i filled the radiator up to the top last week and i checked it today and i opened the radiator and the fluid level was down about an inch and a half from the top. could the fluid just be going to the resivior? i also have a 53 block!!!!!!!!!

Was the resevoir full when you topped of the radiator? If it was pressure check it and see if it holds. Or put a pressure checker on it and run it. See if the pressure builds quickly. If it does you have a head problem.

There is always air left in the cooling system when you top off the radiator. The air is in the top radiator hose and heater core. It takes lots of heat cycles to push the air out and pull water back in. I would not worry about it yet. Top the radiator off and make sure the over flow bottle is at the full mark and keep an eye on it. As the air is pushed out the over flow bottle level will drop some. About 1 to 1 1/2 inches and then hold a steady level.
