INSTALLED ON PILLAR IS A DIGITAL CYBERDYNE OIL TEMP GUAGE. I AM CONSTANLY LOOSING THE SIGNAL. SENDER IS INSTALLED ON TOP OF THE OIL FILTER MOUNT. NO TAPE WAS USED. I SUSPECT POOR CONTINUITY BETWEEN MOUNT AND BLOCK. IS THIS THE WRONG LOC FOR SENDER?

It might be failing due to vibration. You might want to make a bracket for the new sender and mount it to the fender using a grease gun hose to connect to the filter housing.

That is how most people mount the fuel pressure senders for the very same reason.

Doh, My Fault

I didn't read enough. I thought it was a pressure gauge he was talking about. Sorry.

I don't know about the Cyberdyne, but it should be a thermocouple sensor. Usually it is a wire problem with TCs and the sensor does not need to be grounded. Open, it reads full scale and with a short it will read ambient. Other times the signal converter is bad and just needs to be replaced.

If it is a capillary tube (bulb) sensor, you probably need to get a whole new set (gauge & sensor).

chobbs,

You have the proper location.

If the temperature sender is mounted without tape then you should have a good ground at that end.

Have you checked the gauge and it's wiring  Could be a bad sender.

BTW, a little forum etiquette; when you type in capitals, it means your shouting  ;)

SOMEWHERE SOMEBODY ALONG THE LINE SAID TYPING CAPITALS WAS SHOUTING AND MOST PEOPLE FELL IN LINE LIKE A BUNCH OF SHEEP AND BELIEVED IT. ITS ALL BALONEY. UPPER CASE LOWER CASE, THIS FONT THAT FONT, WHAT DIFFERANCE DOES IT MAKE, NONE IN THE LONG RUN... ... ... ..... PERIOD... ... .....

I have to say that I'm getting tired of the discourtesy that seems increasing daily, not just here on the TDR, but everywhere. People seem to have learned the 'rules' by rote, without ever realizing that there's a reason behind those rules. Most of us are indeed being sheep, in that we put up with it, never calling the offender on their misbehavior, because we ourselves, do not wish to be rude.

No one seems to realize that standing in line is the best substitute ever invented for an unruly mob. If you don't believe this, then you haven't seen the footage of food being handed out in impoverished countries where either no one knows how or cannot afford to stand in line. Most of the rice or flour ends up on the ground.

I can see how, if you were taught to say, "Thank you" when someone does something for you, without ever being given any understanding why you say it, that you would be a 'sheep' if you said it. The fact is, it is a man to man exchange, an acknowlegement that someone has done something for you, and an admission that you owe them a debt. It doesn't matter if they passed the sugar or saved your house from the flood, it's something you rear up on your hind legs and recognize.

It's a free country. You don't have to follow any damm rules if you don't want to. But the rest of follow them because we acknowlege that there's a reason for them, that we are members of a society, and that our society works better because of it.

So if I told you that someone did a scientific study sometime somewhere, and they found that people found lower case easier to read, would you believe me? If we put a poll in 'Other' and ask what people prefer to read, would you go along with the opinion of the majority? Would it cost you anything to turn off your Caps-Lock key?

If BigDaddy came along and helped someone and they didn't even bother to thank him, would he help them again?

Mr. Hobbs,

With only 4 posts, you're not getting off to a very good start. Could I respectfully and politely ask you to reconsider your position on this "all-caps" issue? You may not agree with the perceived significance of ALL CAPS = SHOUTING, but it is more or less accepted Internet forum convention, and in this case, perception does equal reality (i. e. , if we perceive it as shouting, we will respond as if we're being shouted at. )

Thank you very much for your kind consideration of your fellow TDR members. It is greatly appreciated.

He Was Doing You A Favor

I agree with both of these guys. Big Daddy was doing you a favor and you kicked him in the teeth. Come On, Get with the program, These are a nice bunch of guys. Why start off on the wrong foot?.

Now Now Guys - Let's not all get into a temper about the all capitals thing. I like to write in capitals, so does that mean I'm always yelling? Now that I think of it, I am hard or hearing and maybe writing in capitals helps me understand when someone writes back :)

Anyway, the writing in capitals does appear in the forum guidelines, which you can read by clicking on "Site Guidelines" at the bottom of each thread page. Here is what the guideline suggests:

9. Proper Punctuation Pleases the Public. Remember that TYPING IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS is akin to shouting. Also, the excessive use of exclamation marks and other punctuation can make your posting difficult to read, not to mention irritating. Remember, misspelled words reflect poorly on you.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to this old fart with bad ears.

Its easier to read and follow when its not in all caps. So yes it does make a difference. Its real easy to "skip" over the all capital letters posts.

I have to agree with those who think we shouldn't sink to the lowest standard of behavior - we see too much of that in the world - not just our country. Incidently, I don't recall ever seeing a book written in all caps - there must be a reason... ... ... ...
