i have a 2003 2500 CTD 214K miles and driving to school today i was turning a corner on a windeish road and i loose RPM completely, Steering straightens out and seems to lock(i didnt try muscling it though), and the brakes booster gets mushy.
I was going about 35 and had taken my foot off the accelerator and just applied the brakes.

This has happen once before about 3 weeks ago.

Earlier when stopped at stop lights the rpm would surge about 150 then drop to normal, then increase, it would do it until i applied throttle.

i then went to a doctors appointment and came back to school taking the same road going about 40 this time and tried not to use brakes and no problem, it even seemed to have more power climbing a hill......

What happen and how did it happen?

Any suggestions?

If it happens when you turn I would guess something in the PS pump or the hydro-boost system is malfunctioning. It could be either or both. Have you checked PS fluid lately? Maybe low?

We need some clarification here, otherwise we way take the wrong path to help you. When you "lose RPM completely" do you mean that the engine died? Because, if it did, then losing power steering and power brakes would have been normal since the engine drives the pump that operates them. In this case you would be looking for a problem that caused the engine to die.

If the engine did not die, then there is a problem with the power steering / power brake circuit, so you would be looking for a problem that caused the failure in this circuit.

Off the fuel filter? No the only thing I see coming of the back of the filter canister was a line that I followed back to the fuel tank. So I think the pump is in the tank, like I've read.... I had to take it to the dealership, so hopefully I'll get a call from them today.

So it turns out i was running on the Original Fuel injection Pump, It lasted 214000 miles... and the Limiter valve would leak around 16000 psi. So a replaced Fuel Injection Pump and injection manifold and the truck is running smoother and sounds much better.
Thank you

First they tried just relaxing the fuel pump, test drive it with no improvement so they kept working toward the engine block. Took off the fuel injection pump and I don't k ow what they saw but something made them realize it was the original pump so they replaced it and also saw a small leak coming from the Line going from the injection pump to the rail on the rail side. So a replacement of the injection pump and rail. The pump cost $1700 and the rail $450 plus labor.
