Hey guys,

I am a first gener but my grandfather ownes a 02 2wd 6-speed. He is complaining about loosing power every now and again while going uphill. He says the power keeps dropping until he can't get over 1500 RPM and it wont go over 30MPH. To took it to the Dealer and they say it is the fuel injection pump. I don't know much about the 24 v engines, but only having about 65,000 miles on it, the pump being toast doesn't make sence. Any thoughts? Thanks.

soubds like a pump to me. The first thing is to watch the fuel pressure and see it if falls when there is a lose of power. If so you have other problems (and a cheaper fix). Sldo id it throwing codes?

I saw my grandfather today, and I checked into the three clicks of the ignition thing, and it mentioned something about the PCU and then gave me the number P1693 (If my memory is correct that is). Is there a chart that explains what each number means and if so where do I find It? As for fuel presure, how would you know if it does or doesn't? My grandfathers truck is 110% stock so it does not have any guages. (Might have a good reason now to convince him to at least get guages:D ).

If and when the lift pump quits, or has to low of pressure, it can kill the fuel injection pump (VP44). The lift pump also is the sloe source of fuel for lubricating and cooling the fuel inj. pump. No oil lubrcation like the P7100 in-line fuel inj. pump that is on the '94-98. 4 model year trucks.

My vehicle is doing the same thing. It started with the 1693 code and now I get P0500. The first code has something to do with ecm and the second code is a speed sensor. There is another post with codes listed type in search codes and it will get you to different articles.
