History:

Installed new DDP 50 nozzles last weekend set smarty to sw3 TQ2 RP2 TM4 and it ran great on the 300 mile trip to where I sit now. Yesterday, I restored the ECM to stock and let my buddy try the smarty. Once complete, we retored his back to stock and I downloaded the same tune back into mine

(sw3 TQ2 RP2 TM4 ) It ran for a couple of miles then it began to lose power, almost like limp mode with no cel. I pulled over and adjusted the settings to default on SW3. This gave the truck a couple minutes of rest then it was ok for about 1/2 mile and did it again. When I pull over to look around under the hood, I smell a burning type smell... almost like a clutch but its a 48re.

This morning I tuned it back to stock and it is doing the same... . almost didnt make it up a hill in town.

Boost-30 psi

EGT's- 11-1200 when I am pressing the go pedal trying to make it move under loss of power.

Trans guage- temp drops down when i put my foot in it trying to make it go under lioss of power, returns to normal temp when I pull my foot out

Engine temp- normal

Smoke- black and somewhat excessive (not blackout)

Trans fluid- not burnt but seems a bit overfilled

No CEL

I disconnected the batteries as i type this to reset the computers and will drain some of the trans fluid out.

Any ideas? I have to drive home tomorrow and i have no power!

BTW, my trans fluid is excessively high. I installed a Shift kit about 2K miles ago and the fluid level was spot on when I refilled after the job was complete... now all of a sudden it is too high? could it have something to do with the TQ? maybe front pump? with the trans temp fluctuating, the fluid too high and the truck not wanting to go... . sounds like a trans/TC issue to me. I am hesistant on drainnig any fluid when it was fine before.

Anyone?

Torque converter is the weakest part in a 48RE trans. I had Goerend Brothers Transmission do my trans and it is a completely different truck now. Best money spent to date! I had the low stall triple disc converter installed' along with a bunch of other goodies they suggested. If I tried to put the power I have now (modified) through the original trans, it would have just left a puddle under the truck, and it wouldn't have been transmission fluid! :-laf

I disconnected the batteries for 30 minutes to reset the computers. Then i reinstalled the Smarty back to SW3 default. I test drove it and it seemed to be better but still not 100%. I am hoping there was some confusion in the communicatioon with the ECM/PCM/TCM and this reset will help as it relearns my driving habits. Just worried as i am driving it home 300 miles today and need to be at work tomorrow!

When I checked the trans fluid it was in park, not neutral. Not sure if that made a difference but nevertheless, it wasnt frothy or burnt. Still wondering where that smell was coming from; TC/Trans, maybe the bands? I had the pedal mashed to make it up a hill and I honestly thought i was going to start going backwards and there was nowhere to pull off. The engine sounded like it was being defueled but it was still puffing black smoke with 1200 EGT's. It is almost like the brakes are on but they're not.

I am not positive the Smarty will read transmission codes (P0700's), you may have to have a Dealer scan it.

Well I made it home, the truck ran horrible for the first 20 miles; lots of black smoke and no power. I pulled over and set the Smarty at SW3 RP1 TQM2 TM1 and it started running a bit better. 50 miles later it seemed like it was running normal after Cruise control was set at 70 for that time. About 50 miles after that the truck lurched and the CEL came on; did a guage check and all was fine... . so I kept on. Stopped in kettlemen city where i pulled up the DTC's and got:

P0251- CP3 Pump regulator control

P0483- Fan Speed

P0524- Unknown

I had my buddy look up the unknown while I was on the road and he said it was a low oil pressure code. I think that was kicked out when the engine shut down on me for a split second because my pressure during that initail guage check was good.

Any ideas on the P0251? My first thought was the FCA but I also read on here that could mean the relief valve. What do you think?
