I just heard back from my dealership today that I lost the #4 clylinder on their kill test.

Obviously warranty isn't going to cover it nor would I expect it to so what do I do now? I still plan on making this truck a 600rwhp truck, and was in the process of having my new transmission built. I do plan on running twins as well, so do I let Dodge replace the parts or do I send it to a reputable shop and go ahead and get the engine "built" while I am at it. I also don't know what mods needs to be done to accomodate what I am wanting to do.

Since you are in texas call Relentless diesel in willis texas. They can build what you want. I had them build my transmission last week and was really impressed with their work.

Brad

Your building the wrong truck!

For what your after the 96 would be so easy to BOMB big time!! :D :D :D Sorry to hear about your problem. What is a Kill test and how did the dealer determine#4 was the only cylinder that was bad? Inquiring minds want to know! Ken Irwin

PS you don't want to sell that 96 do ya? :-laf

No way would I sell the 96' :D

I will get more details tomorrow. As well as pursue some input from some of the companies mentioned above.

Brad do you happen to have a number for Relentless Diesel?

Thanks guys

Why won't the dealer replace the short block mine was replaced two weeks ago with a bad #5, and oiling port clogged up and scored the cylinder wall not my fault.

Did you have any warning signs previously?

I didn't have one hint of a sign. I drove the truck to work that morning VERY easy. I always baby it in the mornings on a cold engine. Anyways, the truck ran great, no odd noises or any other indications. Then when I pulled out of my parking lot to get lunch, once again very easy, it let go and started making a horrific noise and running rough at the end of the driveway to my office

I could understand a little better if I had been hot-rodding around and blew it on a hard acceleration, but I was at about 1200rpms and mildly accelerating. I guess I'll know more when I tear into the engine.

sounds like a clogged piston nozzle...

I've got an engine in the garage that lost the #6... got hot and scored the cylinder wall and the piston kissed the valves.

I don't know exactly what happened, but it's got a Penzoil filter on it :(

I say it's yet another case of a stuck-open injector caused by a small piece of debris in the wrong place which was probably wear metal that migrated there from the CP3.

Heads are coming off tomorrow, and the dealer and I are going to have a pow-wow to determine the cause. If it is something I caused, then I'll pay, if it is a stuck injector or something similar, they'll pay. They are being very reasonable, so we'll see what happens. I am curious to see what the problem is. I am impressed that the dealer is going to diagnose the problem WITH ME before making any decisions, when they could just flag the whole truck.

Lonestar,

As bad as things are for you, at least you have a reasonable dealer to work with. Hope things work for your benefit. Let us know, and maybe I need to talk to your dealer.

yeah that was pretty nice of the dealer to work with you. I just can't understand why these injectors fail so quickly and give hardly any warning and when they do fail.

It appears when they go south, it's so fast that the damge is done by the time you know it.
