I have a 97 1 ton w/ 106000 on it and lost a gallon and a half of oil all over my truck and trailer Friday. Started making a undescribable noise while pulling down the highway @ 70m. p. h. oil guage was fine but temp. was at end of "safe" but not in the red, so I turned off air, took it out of o. d. and slowed down. Temp. came down, noise went away thought all was fine, drove on about ten miles did it again, this time traffic stopped. When I stopped smoke was coming from under hood (oil smoke) and truck was running like an 8 cyl. gas motor hitting on 4. Pulled off the road to find my trailer took an oil bath as well as the truck. Mostly drivers side and whole undercarriage. Assumed block pressurized for what ever reason and blew oil out of the bypass or blow by tube whatever you want to call it. Also appeared to come out of dipstick tube. Transport truck driver was on the lot and told me it sounded like an o-ring on the fuel pump gave out and was letting fuel and oil mix which was pressurizing crankcase and blowing out then. Towed to Cummins and they said front gear housing cover was cracked ( I'm guessing from all the pressure) and they found a rock that had rubbed a push tube (?). That part I don't get, have to ask more tomorrow, but they haven't fired it up yet. Sat. when tow truck came it would barely run. Cummins suggests maybe turbo is bad. The fuel pump was replaced by Dodge dealer at about 40,000. They couldn't time it correctly, after they had it for a month they towed it to Cummins. They got it running good. Later it went to McClain Diesel (local performance shop) to have a "tune up" Been running good for three years so I assume that isn't the problem. It's not some radical 14 sec. truck, just needed a little more pulling power. It is a reputable shop. Any way' ANY IDEAS OR INFO GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

I had the rings in my turbo start to give out. It blew oil everywhere. But mine didn't run funny, just had to limp the rest of the way to my parents and back home.

Sounds like your problem is alil bit more serious then mine was.

dowel pin

I was just reading up on the dowel pin, and wouldn't they see the dowel pin when they had the cover off? Now that I've read this tonight I'll have a better idea of what they are talking about tomorrow, because there is a big difference in replacing the cover and replacing the housing. This morning they said the cover was cracked but now after reading this stuff I don't remember if they said cover or case tonight when I talked with them. If its the case that explains why it stil isn't back together.

Not if it dropped down into the oil pan as they sometimes do. Also, Cummins wants to pretend that the KDP is a "non-issue". They may not want to talk about it, hoping that you aren't aware of it.

Since we are talking KDP here, what happens if the pin is pulled out and not re-installed? What are the repercussions, if any?

SOTSU!!!
