Now ya'll really have me confused. You say the carrier bearings are $90. 00. Man I got screwed. $1568. 00 for the carrier bearing and all the other little bearing in the rear end. My bearing were pitted from the factory, the mech. said. I did have the extended warranty for at least 14,000 more miles. Those little shavings were floating all around in there. Had to clean out all the rear axle.

$90. 00... ..... Damn

. . Preston. .

clarify the confussion

There are carrier bearings in the differential and on the driveline. I manage to lose them from the differential in my 92 with only 23,000 on the odometer. Never seen a driveline carrier fail until this thread popped up.

BTW- here are the corrected links to Kens pix.

Carrier 1

Carrier 2

Thanks for the corrected links. I went back and fixed my original post. I forgot I put these links on this post when I renamed the folder from tdr to misc.

mopar part #4773014 $181.00

I've double checked my handy work on the rubber carrier bearing replacement. Found nothing wrong. Have decided that maybe the bearing itself may be going bad. But Dodge wants $181. xx for a new one. Anybody know where I can get one at a reasonible price? :(

I have one of the Inland Empire center support bearings. While the bearing and rubber support MIGHT be correct for our trucks it is not in the correct metal support frame for our trucks. Called them and they do not make one that will be a direct boltup. They did say that this one should be able to be inserted into the old support frame.

I haven't sent mine back yet but not sure I am setup to make use if it.

Like the idea of a more modern "rubber" support. Don't like the idea that it is not a bolt up install.

Carrier bearing

Azcummins, the carrier bearings are located in the differential, one on either side of the carrier assy. (upon which the ring gear is mounted). The bearing that is being referred to as a carrier bearing in this thread is called a "center bearing", or at least that is what it is called in the repair manual and by automotive type mechanics. bg
