A friend has a 99 with 120K on it. Assume original pump, but he is not first owner.

Runs for about 6 seconds when cold, then quits & does not want to stay running. If you crack the line on #1 & bleed it he says he can get it to run. Usually runs okay when warm. No check engine light, no fuel pressure gauge or pressure tap on it.

He's planning on putting a FASS on it first.

I told him it's pretty likely it will need a pump soon.

Thoughts?

is there air getting into the system? If fuel is coming out the line then the pump is probably ok. not just a drip, but a steady stream. (careful it is 20,000 psi)

Has he changed the fuel filter? That should be done first to rule it out.

Next, has he checked the fuel pressure at the injection pump when bumping the starter (but not starting the engine)? If the fuel pressure is normal during this test (at least 10 psi minimum), then he can dig deeper into the cause.

Regards,

John L.

Code 216(Bad VP44) won't turn on the check engine light. You have to hook up to a scanner or watch the odometer when you turn the key on, off, on, off, on. If you get 216, you need a new injection pump.

Got the Raptor pump on, and now there is a DEFINITE leak around the tube coming out of the sender. Can't see it 'til you shut it off. #@$%!

Where can I get a sender for it? I know - dealer, right? Any others? Won't one from the dealer have the "update" pump on it?:{
