Chipped Keys

They weren't in the boat. I ordered a key from eBay and had it cut at the hardware store. (they did it free) I took it to the dealer and he said it would be $20 to program it, and after connecting his computer thingy and looking up the PIN, it wouldn't work. Something is either wrong wiht my SKIM module, or the PIN is wrong. (he double checked it) Bottom line is no more keys can be programmed if the SKIM module can't be unlocked.

When I picked up my truck a couple of weeks ago they gave me a bag with the second key in it and the code on the bag and said that I could program another key myself if needed and didn't have to have the dealer do it. Hopefully #@$%! I don't ever have to do it.

Once the wrong pin has been entered 3 times the system locks you out it can be openedback up by a simple procedure. That I won't elaborate on here to aid any one with bad intentions.

Is there any way that I can doublecheck the PIN? The service guy looked it up and the VIN and everything matched. He doublechecked the PIN a couple times, but it wouldn't open up the program, even with the original key. (I thought maybe my cheapo eBay key was the problem)

I thought maybe if I removed the SKIM from the steering column and put a block of foam in the circular antena so I could keep the key in the same realation to it, I could just use a non-chipped key. No luck. The light keeps blinking and I have a no start. If I clip the SKIM back on and use the right key, it starts and runs fine.

The dealer asked if I had changed anything. The only thing is my BOMBed high beam switch and the key in ignition sensor wire clipped. He thought that might have something to do with it. I forgot to tell him I had pulled the fuse for the power seats since my son is riding up front with me now that the dogs own the backseat. I doubt that would change anything either, but who knows?

I found the other key. I was sort of bummed out and figured since the dash was halfway disassembled, it would be a good time to install the switch for my air compressor and conceal the iPod wiring. I started to pull out the center console, and it was next to the shifter boot. Not sure how it got there, but I have the new third key programmed now.
