Resignation

What a terrible way to lose a pup. :( Sorry to hear about your loss.

I lost my 11 yo Dobie a year ago today. We had a special bond, we knew each other so well. Being close to the city, the next day I sat on the couch and could smell him on the blankets, and the smoke from the WTC.

:( Sorry about the loss of your pup,Cody. Get a new puppy as soon as you can, I know it won't replace your pup, but it will make healing easier. I've lost so many dogs and cats, and it always tears me up each time. People who don't have animals, just don't understand the pain. Time will heal the pain and a new pup will certainly help. I don't know how many times that I said " no more animals". Know there are a lot of us that share your pain! Hope you get another pup soon. Tim:( :( :( :(

Thanks for all the kind words, guys. Mike, I was out in the yard with them and watched everything as it happened. I ran and got a knive as fast as I could, but I wasn't fast enough. Perhaps that is the worst part, knowing that had I been a little faster, she might still be with me. I tried CPR and MMR for I don't know how long, until Candice came and told me that was enough, let her go. Bandit was very somber yesterday when I got home. He wouldn't play or retrieve, he just kept smelling the place where I laid her while I was preparing her grave. I took him to a park and once he got around all the people, he livened up and got very playful. That was great to see. I am going to do everything I can to get a new pup today and surprise Candice when she gets home from work late tonight. Bandit needs a buddy, and we could use a pup to help fill the hole in our hearts as well.

I suggest using collars with the plastic quick disconnect instead of the belt type. I never thought anything like that would ever happen, but it did.

I know how you feel. Had a yellow lab. Me and my son went to Victory and got him. Named him Harley(after the motorcycle)There wasn't a female around that he didn't know when they were in heat. Fellow down the road called me up and wanted to breed theres with Harley. Said they would give me a pup out of the litter. Got me a brown lab out of it. They had papers on there dog and they showed me back in the owners that one of the blood line they had a Schultz in its name. The female they had they got from South Dakota. Back to the put I got out of the liter. I named him Bo. My brother-in-law ran over him one day. When I got home I had to go back in some woods an find him. Brother-in-law told me were he was. He wouldn't let him get near him. I could see his back was broke. So I put him on a blanket and dragged him out to the rode, wife helped me. Loaded him in the back of my mule and took him back to the house, got him in the truck and took him to the vet. There wasn't nothing they could do. Could take him to A&M and have a operation. But there were not sure if it would do any good. So I had him put to sleep. I did not feel good when I went to the vet next day and picked him up. So I buried him in the Northend of the pasture buy his dad Harley that died from old age. I see the site there buried at everyday when I come home. So now we have a Cocker Spaniel I got from my brother when his had pups. And a part lab/Golden Retriever that I got from one of Harleys liters form another dog. I get attached to dogs they got feelings just like anything else.

I found this in Watchers by Dean Koontz. FWIW, I thought Watchers was a great book.

TRIBUTE TO A DOG
The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintery winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wing and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

I went yesterday afternoon and got another pup. A little yellow female. She is precious, and would have made Daisy proud to be a big sister. Bandit is still a little unsure why there is a new pup in the house, but he was the same way when we brought Daisy home. I'm sure they will be best buds in a few weeks. I had planned to surprise my wife with her, but she ended up having to work today also so she didn't get to come home last night. We talked on the phone though, and she heard her whimper, so she knows we got another pup. She is very anxious to get home and see her. I am tempted to leave work early also and go play with my pups. I am still very upset about Daisy, and I felt bad about getting another pup so soon, but nothing helps to heal pain like a cute little puppy, and we had a lot of fun yesterday. Candice and I are going to plant a bed full of daisies over where we laid Daisy to rest in the spring. That will most likely be the only piece of my parent's yard that will be kept mowed and neat:)

Cody,

Congrats on your new pup! Bandit will get back the companionship that he needs!

Now you got my attention, you were right there and still the terrible incident happened.

I was walking my black Lab, Herco, named after the shotgun powder, when a couple of kids were playing catch with a rubber ball about 1/2 the size of a tennis ball and Herco felt he should join them. He caught the ball and it went too far, breathing stopped I WAS SHOCKED! I know dog CPR but took a guess on the Heimlich manuever... . the ball popped out and he was fine, I was more shook up then him! I did a a fist inside the other hand and pushed right where the ribcage ends.

Hope I was not out of line with my earlier post, did not mean it as criticle.

Mike

Something that might help all who have lost a furry friend.

The Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.

It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors.

Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows,

hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.

There is always food and water and warm spring weather.

The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed

are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special

person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run

and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing

and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up!

The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet,

you take him or her into your arms and embrace.

Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look

once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together,

never again to be separated.
