I lost fuel pressure (according to the LED on my TST) and power while towing my race cars back from the track. Does this probably mean that my lift pump and my fuel injector pump are gone? Is there any warning when the lift pump goes so you don't kill the fuel injection pump? Where is the best place to buy these parts? I have a 1999 2500 TD.

Check the connection on the pump tap wire. When the little greeen light stops working, it usually indicated that no connection is present with the injection pump.

I would suggest getting a fuel pressure gauge, along with a boost and pyrometer.

Chances are good that your Lift Pump (especially if it is original) is dead. How far along the damage to the VP44 is, is unknown. There is no real warning when the lift pump dies.

I have found the best place to buy lift pumps is from the Cummins dealer. They should cost around $150. I have seen Dodge charge up to $400 just for the pump (with out labor to change). Changing it only takes about 15min.
