My truck just completely lost reverse. If I put it in any other gear it functions properly a nd shifts fine but when I put it in reverse it doesnt feel like it's engaging and push up into the brake. I do notice a very slight change in the exhaust note when put into reverse but not near as different as it should be. Any ideas. Help please.

timelessconstructionllc, this is from 96 FSM for the 47re ( little sister to 48re).

1. Gearshift likage cable misadjusted/damaged.

2. Park sprag sticking.

3. Rear band misadjusted/worn

4. Valve body malfunction.

5. Rear servo malfunction.

6. Direct clutch in overdrive worn.

7. front clutch burnt.

So, what are the odds of this being able to be fixed without pulling the trans. If it helps determine what the problem is, it happened when I backed into a fallen tree and came to an abrupt stop. Also, I'm trying to determine whether to get try into it myself or take to a transmission shop.

Edmond ok. It seems to shift fine as far as the gear shifter goes. Haven't checked the rear band yet but it sure as hell shouldn't have much wear on it. transmission was just installed about a month ago.

Dropped the pan, fairly significant amount of blackish residue (very fine residue) had settled in pan. No parts, pieces, or objects in pan tho. Did I mention that this trans has only been in for a couple thousand miles and it's a billet trans and triple disc tc.
