With the fuel I have with the stock charger, my egt's are high, but when my truck locks up, my smoke clears up. It didn't do this until about 2 weeks ago. I had the old style AC lift pump, so I updated it, with the Carter. and swapped to a #4 plate, and it is a little better, but I used to have a lot more smoke. My EGT's are still high too.

Wow, you have all of those mods on a stock turbo? How hot does it get? How much boost? I'm surprised you can clean up the smoke at all. Have you put the truck on a dyno? Folks told me DDP4s without any other mods would be too much for a stock turbo.

CSimpson,

Where is you cam plate positioned?

Have you checked your fuel pressure?

I have had the same problem for a few weeks now. I did get some of the power back after adjusting the plate and afc some but it still does not smoke like it used too. My low end spool up is still slower than normal. This happened after I installed the injectors. Not blaming the injectors they do add some power but it does not smoke as much as it did with the stock injectors and then when I put the stock onces back it the power was way down from what it should have been with the stock injectors. I've tested all components except for the P pump. I've been looking for a 913 to replace the 180 with. With my mods in sig I did dyno at 355 hp at 777 torque with 19hp more on meth. I wish I knew what the problem is. Smokes some on the bottom then clean air (or should I say a slight haze) on the top.

Let me know if you find your problem. It may help mine.

plate is full forward, and the pressure is 21 at idle 28 wot, so the pressure is good, I'm wondering if DV is gummed up or I've got a injector not opening?

I probably should run some fuel additive/cleaner through my system. Have not done it in along time.

CSimpson, Have you tried any fuel additives/cleaners?

I've been running some Howe's Diesel Fuel Conditioner, it says it lowers smoke, so I didn't run it in this tank, thought for some reason it was cleaning it up that much, not the case, still don't know what it is. I think it is going to Jim Jessup this weekend, see if we can figure it out. I'll let you know what it is.

My truck is the same way. #8 full forward now #6 plate full forward (no change), 100hp injectors, hx35/14wg turbo, new lift pump. Grey haze no black smoke. I thought it blew more smoke with the stock 175K 180s.

What gives?

If the arm isn't on the fuel plate correctly will it cause this?

Other ideas?

The arm position could do it, if it goes under the plate.

If the AFC housing is all of the way to the rear, it will reduce the power. When I slid my plate, I forgot to check it. Couldn't feel anymore power til I slid it back forward. Found my power and smoke.

Dirty fuel filter or screen will be a cause as well.

A 100 mile interstate trip seemed to loosen up something to make a little more smoke.

I adjusted the arm, it was below the plate. Found some smoke.

I still don't seem to have much smoke under boost. I would assume that 100hp injectors and a #6 full forward would smoke out the hx35.

More tinkering to find the power I really don't need.

Could it be injectors or would it not run right at all if they were off?
