This weekend while backing out of the drive, the wheel turned a little harder than normal, followed by a little snap... then an Air Bag light, and a few choice words from me... I have lost all the controls mounted in the steering wheel, including the horn. Warrenty is going to pay for the fixing... but what exactly is broke... how simple, and common is this problem. .

Thanks

Bryan

Say goodbye to your clockspring. There are several threads about it on going.

There is a recall on some trucks, but it is most likely the culprit. It seems to take about 30 mins to have it changed under warranty.

Was it the new truck. . or the old truck that did it? You didn't say... ...

Congratualtions!, your in the broken clockspring club!. Mine snapped last week, i just had it replaced this morning. Took about 35 minutes for them to fix under warranty. Apparently its VERY normal

Aaaahhh. . yess. . it is all coming back to me know... hehe... now I remember... the clock spring. . I knew there what a name for that thing. . but it was slipping my mind. .

Kat it was on the new truck. . 3 weeks old. . 3000 miles. . (It has a production date of 9/2000. . got the hood insulation, rear cup holders, and Oh S%*t handles... ) They sure could have put some paint on the drive shaft and Trany. . all rusty... yuck. yuck... I'll have to get out the paint. .

She'll be going into the shop next week to have it fixed. . just don't like them anywhere close to my truck...

Thanks for the info...

I can feel for you in not wanting them near your truck. I was sitting in the passenger seat while they changed out my Clockspring this morning in the parking lot. I did not trust these guys at all. It seems pretty easy, take the airbag out, remove the steering wheel trim and take off the steering wheel and it the Clockspring pops right out.
