Just like the title says, 5600 and I think it is the switch on the transmission. T he first switch lasted 60k this switch only 20k. I guess I will buy a third.

I've got 4 of these trucks..... close to 500 K total miles... all with the 5600... . we've not had a switch failure... .

We do have extra lights on all the trucks that run off a relay switched by the circuit... .

I have had to replace mine also at 71,000 miles & they are not cheap. Just another expense on this truck, it never ends. My 92 went 210,000 with no expense except normal maintenance. Wish I still had it. Man bought it from our local dealer is still driving it.

So what kind of switch is it (pressure, mechanical, etc. ) and can it be serviced or cleaned. Is it ez enough to get out of the transmission?? Just wondering. TIA

It is a mechanical switch, screws into the side of the transmission about straight across from the exhaust pipe. There is no way I could see to try to repair it. Looks like a big ball bearing pressed into the switch. Mine cost $65. 00 at NAPA.

car quest has the switch for about $12 I think i know it is under 20 if you want I will get the part number when I get home

I noticed mine was going off and on while backing last night. I've had numerous cars and trucks and never had a bad switch. I guess I have one now!

and if anyone needs the pigtail that plugs into it is listed as a gm style connector but is the same as the factory dodge one and is about $20 at carquest in case your plug gets messed up or you don't have one like me cause i was swapping from an auto if any one needs that number let me know cause that will take some digging but i can probably find it

I'm on my third one on my 02. I took the 2nd one apart and found the contacts tarnished, not burned. If you could get some cleaner in there. The design should have a rubbing action when they make so they could self clean.
