early demise

First of all, my opinion is that the 47RE is not junk. It does benefit from upgrades and updates in most applications and especially in our diesels. I worked at Chevy dealers for 8 years and saw failures of their trans at less than a mile on the odometer. It is a shame that this one failed and I hope the dealer opts for a new unit, though a tech who is on the ball could likely repair it to give good service for a long time. (Till the upgrades:rolleyes: ) As a Mopar fan working commission at a Chevy dealer I was asked often why I didn't work at Dodge. Simple answer, not enough trans work to make a living. :p

James,

When was the last time you saw a tech at the dealer who was "on the ball"?

Any news lately? Havn't heard from you.

Spoke with a DC mechanic today... . ran into him at the local gas shop... . after he made the mistake of asking how my new cummins was... I filled him in on what occurred with the transmission on Saturday.

The mechanic feels that the bolts holding the torque converter onto the fly wheel may have let go for whatever reason (i. e. not torqued properly etc. )and this caused the vibration through the drive train.

Does this make sense?

proudrammer, you beat me to it. I was thinking about posting that it was probably a flex plate of bolt up problem and then read your post. I agree with the tech. I had a Dodge several years ago that did that.

Boys... it was not the transmission... it was a lack of oil in the differential which caused the whole assembly to fry on the highway. Please read my other post on this topic
