It was not smoking out of the exhaust but it was smoking out of the blow-by which I think was because the fuel in the oil was getting really hot. They told me today the rep. was not coming but they are putting a new high pressure pump on it. They do not know when it will be in though, cause they just ordered it today.

Well, I am hopeful for you, but not betting on the pump. Got to be injector(s) or ECM. The pump only has diesel fuel in it, no oil cooling, no route to contaminate the oil. A check of fuel rail pressure would answer the question, since a stuck open injector would bring the rail pressure low. Even wide open, that pump could not flood the crankcase unless an injector was stuck. Sorry this has gone on for so long- hope they gave you a decent loaner!

Diesel dosnt wash down like gas will. Seen a fair amount of Cummins with dipsticks reading to the TOP of the stick. Bad transfer pumps and a few injection pump seals gone bad. None ever seem the worse for it. Biut of course they wern'nt new. All were high mileage.

So the engine in question here might just be broke in a little sooner? At least on the cylinders with bad injectors.

On a "new"truck I don't know if I would be to happpy about all that fuel in there but I do know the ones I handled in years past full of diesel seemed none the worse for it.

Wouln't a crack (or defect) in the head (in the right place) cause the same thing? Aren't the lines connected to "passages" rather than the actual injector? (sorry for the stupidity here, I'm a 12v guy)

If the fuel is lost from the overflow (or before the injector, but leaving enough for injection if that makes any sense at all) then you won't notice a much (if any) change in engine performance. (ecxept the mileage might suck) What kind of MPGs? (or did I miss that somewhere?)

Whatever it is, (sure hope we find out) I hope you are treated well and it's fixed to your satisfaction.

scarlton, if you could, find out where the injector was defective or cracked, and if they have any idea why. It would be nice if you could get the bad injector and send it to Cummins for analysis.

I assume they changed the oil after the injector replacement. I would still do it again in less than 2-300 miles just for safe measure and clear the last traces of fuel out of there. I don't think 1 oil change will get it all due to passages and oil pump reserve.

Glad to hear they got it figured out, and now you should have trouble-free operation and come to love that Cummins as much as most people on this board :)

Just one question, did they make you walk? Or did they give you a truck of comporable value to drive while yours was in the ER? This is something that really upsets me about people who spring a buy the new vehicle and then they find themselves paying a payment, lisence, insurance, and their truck is sitting in the shop, and the mechanics dont seem to really care, and it stays there for weeks on end? Whats up with that, I mean if I kept my boss waiting and waiting for an assignment he gave me, I would be out on the street, but these large corporations can produce sub-par products and theres little to no ramifications, and they dont owe you anything when they have inconvenienced you and cost you dollars out of your pocket!!! WHATS UP WITH THAT?????

Isn't the ECM capable of setting a code for low oil pressure?

When I get an engine that is making oil that is usually the first

indicator, the driver will get a CEL and if he keeps driving he will

get a shut down. I don't normally work on Cummins engines but

I would have thought they would have read a low oil pressure

and I feel certain that it would have had low oil pressure with

that much fuel dilution.

Not trying to make them out to be liars, but I'll bet they already sent it back. They probably sent it to the dumpster out back!!!
