Wanted to start a new thread since th other one is getting too long to keep track of. I have the replacement pillars (one for a 96' and one for a 99' w/ tweeter) and have yet to send them. Why? The replacements are different than the one in my truck and I need some feedback. The pillar in my truck runs about half way down the front door edge on the bottom and meets with the trim of the kick panel. On both replacements, the pillar is a full piece for the top, but they do not have the small tailpiece that goes down along the door. I think they would work and that no one would know, except when you open the door.

Tell me what your a-pillar looks like. What year do you have, w/ or w/out tweeter and how far down does the lower edge go???

Rob, I have a 12V '98QC without the tweeter. My pillar ends about 2 inches below the dash and doesn't have the ear you're talking about. The kick panel goes up to the bottom of the dash.

My 99 with tweeter doesn't have the tail piece. It ends at the dash.

John,
The A-Pillar cover removes easily by first pulling down the black rubber door seal. This seal is pressure fitted, no glue, so don't worry about being able to return the seal to its original position.

At this point, you can see three small brass colored, metal clips that insert into the A-Pillar. There is also a plastic "guide post" at the top of the pillar cover. Just pull out on the cover with your fingers near the metal clips. No need to twist. There will also be a white clip mounted to the pillar where you can disconnect the speaker wire.

As for mounting of the currently available dual guage pods similar to the one available in Geno's: You can drill and mount them with screws or rivets. Or, you can use an epoxy. Just depends on your patience level, and any likelihood that you may have to access the guages in the future for maintenance.

My 98. 5 QC has the shorter A-pillar w/tweeter. Looking next to the dash there is a gap of about 2 1/2 inches between the top of the kick panel and the bottom of the A-pillar. There is about a 1/4 inch gap between the door seal and the dash where you can see this gap. I think they removed the tailpiece to make it easier to assemble. As to removing the A-pillar here is DC's instructions out of the service manual:

1. Remove A-pillar grab handle, if equipped

2. Gasp A-pillar trim at top and pull outward/downward to disengage upper spring clip.

3. Carefully pull bottom of A-pillar trim outward to disengage lower spring clip.

4. Disengage speaker harness connector, if equipped.

5. Separate A-pillar trim from vehicle.

My notes: I pulled on the a-pillar in the manner they described about 3 inches down from the top and about the same from the bottom - popped right off no problem. You also have to disconnect the speaker connector if you have a tweeter in the A-pillar and there is plenty of clearance to get to it.

P. S. Rob, did you get my last post on the old message about the placement of the gauges?

thanks andy and steve (steve you posted same time as me and i didn't see it) , i will look at it tomorrow .

steve , does your 98 have a grab handle on the drivers side ? my 98 1500 didn't and neither does my '00 , but if there was one there it would have to be axed to install the guages . .

a guy i work with has a 95 and i looked at it , it has a tailpiece as rob described , looks like DC decided it cost less to make it without it since you don't see it with the door shut...

Rob,
My 99 with tweeter doesn't have the tailpiece. Must have changed them at some point. Count me in for one, 2 Pod with tweeter camel or tan or whatever Dodge calls the color for a 99

Rob, Thanks for all the time and effort on this.

We get to soon old and to late smart. .

No my truck didn't have a grab handle on the drivers side. I was quoting directly from the factory service manual and the instructions are for the passenger side a-pillar as well - hence the grab rail item.

Rob,

Can you email me on price and availibility?

Just bringin' the topic back up front so it does'nt die like last time. It seems we have some major interest in these things... . Any word Rob?

The factory pillars have been sent to Lotek and he has the ball now to get them designed. Will be in touch with him as this progresses to see how it is going.
