TDR renewal

Any chance the large number of broken links (especially as you go backward in time to older articles) will be repaired in the magazine articles archive? A great many of the PDF links come up "not found".

I can't give a yes or no answer (yet). I'll have to talk to the chief (Robin) about it. I believe resolving dead links in posts would be a pretty big task, since I don't have a record of them available to me.

Fair enough. I am not seriously whining too loud about it, was just digging around the net for some 2nd Gen info (of which past articles of TDR are awesome, BTW) and about half the article links in the archives section go nowhere. "Not found".

The article links are just teasing me, is all. Haha.

Can you provide me with a sample page where these bad links are? I am having trouble identifying what articles/pages can't be found giving the huge amount of content on the site. Thanks!

Well, I'll tuck my tail a little between my legs here... I went to look for the links and figured something out...

If using the web interface, they work.

I was reading via Tapatalk on the night in question, and a great many of the links don't work via that interface, but others do.

Example of a link to the PDF file that works:
"TDR Issue 92 - The Rest of the Story"

Example of a link to the PDF file that doesn't work:
"TDR Issue 75 - Motor Minded"

I'll post a couple of screenshots from the mobile device here in a sec, if that's helpful at all.

Turns out, the content is there, but something about the redirect that happens from the links that don't work, bounces you through a site and then back to TDR and TDR says "Page Not Found".

It knows it's a PDF file.

Screenshot of TDR 75 and subsequent error after clicking on the link:

Hope that helps someone out.

By the way, I'll go test TDR 75 by clicking on "View in Web" from Tapatalk and see if the link works on the mobile device browser from that as well. Report back in a sec. :)

Yep... works if you jump out of Tapatalk to a web browser when viewing the posting, then clicking on the link.

Thanks for looking into it, looks like it's a Tapatalk + Redirects thing for some of the links to PDF files, but not others. But there's a workaround.

I'll do some checking on our end on Wednesday to see if there are any Tapatalk settings I am able to change to resolve this. We want the mobile experience to be as good as it can be, even if it's through a third party tool.

Investigation of the server logs shows this to be a bug on Tapatalk's end, not any settings I can change (no Tapatalk settings related to attachments).

When selecting that attachment in a browser, it fetches the correct link. The logs show when Tapatalk isn't fetching the correct link it's due to a bug with it not supplying the filename extension in the link. In this case, .pdf
