Well we may have beaten this to death but anyway, I was refueling down on 75 at the FJ just before Florida line. On the other side of the pump island was a really shabby looking first gen, running smooth as silk.

I commented as to the paint and the owner said proudly, "yeah, bought it new and it has over a million miles". My paint lacks a little as well so he wasn't put off by my commenting. His was a 90 model and he puls a horse trailer all over the US. Raises and sell horses.

I told him about the TDR and he said thanks that he would look into it. All in all he didn't seem to impressed with my comments about TDR. Hadn't ever had many problems with the truck. The transmission was a 727 and the rear 3:07. The truck a D250. His regular mechanic was going to roll in a set of bearings some time soon. Still had good oil pressure.

Didn't think to ask about his steering.

Great trucks these first gens.

Don't know if he will join but hope he does. Great bunch of guys.

Problems or not every cummins owner should be a member here... . did u happen to ask about the KDP? I'm kinda scared of my KDP :

:(

P. S. First Gens great trucks YES, did i mention i love mine?;) I think im gonna change my name to FirstGen4ever&ever lol, J/k

most cummins owners I have met that are not TDR members listen too much to local 350 chevy mechanics

Probably right on that one... but there are a lot of "sleepers" out there too.

I've met a few 2nd genners (more of them around) at the local fuel stop that don't know anything about their trucks, but had local diesel shops tweak them up a bit for towing. They don't know specifically what mods were done, but they all brag about beating the Fords while towing up the hills!

I guess that's what its all about.

I'll one up ya, Jay

I was talking to a mechanic at the KW dealer in ColoSpgs that had put a "turbo form a 8. 3" on his 99 (00?) 24V. I asked what it did to his exhaust temps, and got a blank stare. I then explained that the HX 40 was normally a last resort in an effort to flow more air and reduce EGTs, or keep the turbo from going into orbit through overboosting. I asked if he had noticed more bottom end lag, and he said yes, and I told him he might not be ready for the 40 just yet. He said he might get gauges on it someday, but had been told by so-and-so up at this shop that he needed an HX40 to flow enough air to go with his chip. Geeezzzz. How can I know more than a guy who has been through years of school, and SHOULD know the basics for fuel vs air, vs spoolup, etc? Guess I've been spending too much time here. I DID tell him to put in a 40-50psi gauge, though.

Daniel

PS- note to self- get copies made of TDR fliers to put on windshields of CTD Rams. There seem to be more and more popping up 'round here.
