A friend has a 2001. His dad was in an accident with it. He layed it on it's side at the edge of the road after sliding on some ice. The some lady plowed in to the back side bottom (around the spare tire).

Since it has been fixed, a lot of oil has been coming out the front vent tube, and fills the overflow bottle, then of course all over everything. This didn't occur before the accident. The truck has about 130,000 miles on it.

Is there some sort of baffle that could have been knocked loose? Any ideas of what to check?

Thanks!

Dan

I have seen oil come pouring out of someone's blow by tube at high revs on the dyno. Seems they overfilled the oil and there was enough splash to send it through the tube. Any chance your buddie's truck is over full?

About the only other possibility I can think of, and not sure how this would cause his problem, would be excessive blowby in the crankcase. This would imply some kind of compression leak? Just a wild guess.

How long did it run when it was sitting on its side?

I'm thinking that all the oil in the sump wasn't where it was supposed to be - the oil pump was sucking air, etc. - and it ended up with a scored cylinder or 6, etc.

Usually - excessive crankcase pressure is indicative of something gone awry with the good sealing action that normally happens between the piston/rings/cylinder wall...

Good question!

I asked him that originally and he said his dad shut the motor down immediately.

I was hoping that there was some sort of baffle, that might of gotten knocked loose.

I guess the only real way to tell about the rings would be to yank the injectors and do a leak down/compression test.

Thanks for the response!

The black plactic "box" that the hose comes out of has a large mesh, steel wool type oil collector in it.

I know this because my fan grabbed my "no bottle, hose extension" and ripped the box off the motor. It screws on with plastic threads like a nalgene bottle. Mine was broken and I saw the element. Yours could be full of crud or the drain "return" hole in the bottom of the rear of box could be clogged.

It doesn't seem user servicable so I'd try ordering another one. Can't cost that much... Oh wait, CTD... yeah probably big bucks...

I was able to glue the cap back on mine.
