Archived lots of smoke, no power

Hi all. A 98. 5 24 v with 38k miles. Ran fine till this morning. Started it up, lots of smoke, stumbling, reminded me of a fouled plug. Lift pump ok, changed fuel filter, not the problem. Will rev up to full rpm, but lots of smoke, and stumbling. Get out on road, no power, but will slowly build up speed ( I turned around at 30 mph), and NO smoke. Idles fine, no smoke. Ideas?

MAP Sensor could be bad.

You could have an injector that is leaking fuel instead of spraying fuel.

I'd check those things and then start moving to the pump.

smoke no power update

After coming back from road test, I let truck idle for an hour. Took it back on the road and it ran fine, accelerating without smoke. Would slow down and then mildly accelerate, ran fine. 10 min into road trip pedal would go away. Would push down on pedal and nothing, nothing, nothing, then slow acceleration. Came to a medium rise in road at 30 mph, got into hill and accelerated, nothing. Didn't slow, didn't speed up. Stopped on hill, accelerated, ran fine. All the while, no smoke. help!!!!

Definately sounds like a dead pedal, another symptom of a bad VP44. Give Scott at Massdiesel a call and he can help you troubleshoot it also.

Go to your local Autozone and have it scanned for any codes.

Sounds similar to when my VP44 went out. The dead pedal is a bad sign.
