im shure this has ben covered bunches ,but how many miles are u guys getting on the new motor 03 and up... what are the main prolblems???

Got passed by a camper hauler on Friday. Well, actually, he blew past me like I was standing still. Said he has close to 400k on is '03. Said he was running 85mph with that TT in tow. Also claimed he had a 150hp box and a AFE, making 383hp and 31mpg empty, 12-14mpg loaded... ... ... .....

Something ain't right, here.

Iv'e got 47K on my '05 I use it as a work truck now everyday for local runs. It only has had a subtle stalling issue, that seems to be related to fuel that started a few months back, hasn't done it in a while but it always clears up with a little additive. Other than that, things have been super and the truck had not been back to the dealer for anything.

136K - Love the truck

  • Four sets of tires

    Warranteed lift pump

    New fan clutch - Warrantee

    New U-joints on front axle

Bolt backed out of TC while towing - took opportunity to build full DTT transmission

    Replace water pump at 134K
All in all, a perfect truck! I couldn't be happier.

I just got my 04 back from a bum that stoped making payments,

long story dont ask... any how it's got 105 on it now just wondring what to expect

165k on my '03 now... lets see 3rd set of tires, got smart and went Michelins, rear drive shaft U Joints and carrier bearing, front drive shaft redone, 1 blown up 5600,1 clutch went in at this time( Con FE, not needed but thought it was a good time to do it) 1 lift pump, 2 fan clutches(at 108 and again at 159k),1 water pump, 1 vacuum pump( for E Brake),all I can recall at the time. Used to tow heavy 90% of the time, tagged for 34,200 in 11 states.

My 1st one seemed to give me a bit of warning by not allowing the A/C to operate at idle, had a 300 mile container haul to complete, all was fine till I hit Baker grade, as soon as boost was up, it got hot. Popped the hood and the fan was not turning at all, just sitting there. 2nd one I noticed the no A/C at idle, this was in town here, went to the DEALER, walked in backwards to the parts dept and replaced it before It left me stranded . Should be smart and a get a spare one of those also. . to go with my spare 5600, radiator hose, fuel filters and numerous other items.

My 04. 5 is the best thing I have ever purchased

108k

3rd set of tires (terra grapplers only lasted 25k :(... . )

U-joint at about 40k --- $80

lift pump at about 60k --- $100 deductible that I shouldn't have had to pay

Front pinion seal at about 100k -- $95

Averaging 15-18mpg hand calc, with all the mods + the big tires

Change the engine oil every 10k

transmission, rear diff every 30k

front diff and transfer case every 50k

brake fluid at 100k

belt at 100k

havent changed the coolant or power steering fluid yet, maybe at 150k.

Got 665k on my 03 Yea haul campers Two weakest points are fuel lift and front supension stuff, gone through 2 lift pumps on canister, one in tank, now got the air dog fuel system. The one in tank started blowin boubles when my bottom tank was at 1/3 or less probably had a crack in a pickup line still got the same front wheel bearings, 6 sets of tires goal is a cool million

TDR members EB and Yogibear have high miles on 3rd Gens. EB got a new truck lately. livingez_123 on NW bombers has well over 200k on his but has burned up two NV5600 trannys.

my 97 was sold at 389,000 so call me optomistic but Im at 110,000 on my 06 looking for 400,000 out of it so far one exaust manifold, pump on exaust brake, second set of tires one camsensor loven this truck would deffinently test drive thought good luck Randy

I have 178,000 on my 04. Only eng. problem I had was #6 injector went fubar at about 90,000. Otherwise unrelated to the eng. , is the lift pump went south at about 75,000. I am hoping for a half million miles out of it. What scares me the most is that the DOT is fighting me on this issue, as they are salting the roads more & more & more & more, and I am sure that the rig will rust to the ground long before the engine quits.

yup that is a bummer about the salt, the body dosent stand a chance. .

the truck im getting back has ben in minnesota for 2 winters hope it hasent done to much damage...

I was considering buying an 05' last week with a "TMU" title ( true mileage unknown) I did a carfax on the VIN, and found the last reported mileage was a couple of months ago when it sold at auction with 295k on the odometer. :--) New odometer read 15k

KEEP ON TRUCKIN'

Lonestar

thanks so for now ,so if the water pump dosent fall off, fuel pump keeps pumping, and dosent fall apart from salt I shud be good Oo.

04 3500 dually with 235K miles, 1 clutch, 1 transmission, 3 sets of u-joints, 2 engine mounted fuel pumps, brakes at 160K miles, pulling a 20K lb trailer 98% of the time.....

04. 5 3500 with 60K miles towing a 30 ft travel trailer, nothing to date

05 3500 dually with 60K miles pulling a 20K lb trailer 50% of the time, nothing to date.

Empty mileage is 17 - 20 on the 04. 5 and 05, towing all 3 are at 10-12... . the 04 has never gone one tank full of fuel without the trailer... .
