You know how when you shut down a motor and its cooling, the metal makes that cracking, popping noise? Well its never very loud or I've never heard it very loud on any Cummins. Since I got my 99 24v when I shut it down that cracking, popping sound is very loud. I mean to the point where it scares a guy. I've been around motors and metal long enough and this seems too loud like theres a problem somewhere.

Today I shut it down and the main noise comes from the exhaust manifold which is normal. Could I have some loose manifold bolts? or a cracked head, manifold?

Noise

Have you looked closely for grease (baking), oil from the breather tube, loose exhaust connection from turbo, water coolant level or centralized the noise to an exact location?
