Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) loud noise on start-up

My 2000 2500 Quad cab made a noise on start-up yesterday when I was leaving work. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner was under the hood. My suspicion is the Turbo, as it was a spool up

and then spool down type of noise. Just like turning a vacuum

cleaner on for 1 or 2 seconds and then turning it off.

Check you connections from the Turbo to the intake horn. Look for tears in your lower boots on the fender side. Check the Air horn mouning bolts and seals around the Grid Heater.

I've heard starters make a similar noise when they failed to disengage immediately after starting.

Check all your intercooler boots and clamps too.



Heck, it's a good idea to check them every now and then, even if you DON'T think you have a problem.
