2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission loud popping in rear/0500 code

Well I have a loud popping coming from my right rear when I trun into a driveway that is higher than the road that I am turning off of.



Also have a 0500 code showing along with 1693 , those seem to be crorrectable .



Any input is welcome thanks in advance!

P0500 is a vehicle speed sensor



Located in the rear differential housing (Top)



Could something be hitting (Or even loose) the sensor (That could be catastrophic if it finds its way into the diff)

I got the 0500 code a couple of months ago it comes and goes, the popping is almost like someone hitting the side of the truck I can hear it over the radio with it turned up fairly loud. I guess in the morning I will jump under the rear and check things out. I first got the 0500 code after driving thruogh some brush on the property I hunt on . Thanks for the input.

I have the popping too, have not been able to find it. It occurs the same way yours does. Only mine will do it going up a curb or down.

I thought it was the rear sway bar freezing in the bushings, so I changed to different bushings that I can greese but that has not made a difference. Mine does not do it all the time and only really does it in the winter. I am at a loss for what it is.



I don't think it has anything to do with your speed sensor code.

The 500 code is a common occurance in theese trucks it seems. Mine threw the code driving home from the dealer when I bought it. It still fires off the code out every now and again too so I consider it my buddy . (Could be from rolling slightly with the ignition on / engine off) Whatever.



I have that loud pop too. I chased it to the front end. After I installed the DT Trackbar , and darrins DSS it dissapeared. I believe that was a different pop than what you speak of. Now it's doing it again only it seems to be from the rear half. I juuust may check all my body mounts / crossmember as those are affected greatly by flex.

I have a loud pop when I make a hard turn or go up/down a curb. I found it to be my front swaybar end links. They hit the differential when the suspension flexs. This is because of the DSS moving the swaybar down and the longer DT control arms with d25 coils move the axle forward.

Well, mine has the "pop" as well when I turn into my uphill driveway. I figured it was simply a loose bed bolt or the like. Gues I'll have to go look for it now!

My truck also "pops" when turning into a driveway or something similar. It doesn't always do it, but it will only do it when it is cold outside.



Seems like a common thing

Do any of use guys with the popping noise have a rail mount type fifth wheel hitch? When I bought my truck the bolts that held the brackets to the frame were too long and the nuts facing out they would pop when turning like you describe when the overload leaf spring would try to move past the bolt sticking out????

Well I have it too. I am trying to figure out a way of how to hang off the truck to find the noise Just kidding.



I will be looking more diligently now that other have the same. Mine is 2000 2500 4x4 QC long bed.

I have no aftermarket hitches, and it does it with my toolbox in or out.

Mine too. It just started here about 2 months ago and it seems to be getting slightly louder.

ok now , I have a rail 5er hitch . Never thought of that but I will check it out . I will also give the bed the once over. It only pops when making right turns into a drive that is higher than the street. I thought is could be the top of the 5er hitch but I put a tie down on it to keep it from moving and it still popped. Thanks for the good thoughts and ides ,it gives me something to check out.

No bed hitches on my truck...
