My 2002 HO 6 speed will make a flutter sound and vibration, like a flat right front tire, when pulling a steep hill WOT in 4th or 5th gear. I think it is the plastic air horn connecting air filter and fender air intake but not sure. Backing off the throttle slightly will stop the noise and vibration. The restrictive gauge on air filter doesn't show any restriction history. I've thought about removing the plastic air horn to see if that stops the noise. Sure would appreciate answer from anyone who have solved this problem. After 6,000 miles problem seems to be improving (less frequent).

I'd remove the air horn even if it isn't making the noise, it just causes restriction. Should be the first mod for any owner.

Bringing this back to the top. I have had a couple of different noises. One sounds like a screeching or howling sound, and the other is the "helicopter" or flat tire sound. Only occurs after running at 2500 RPM or so for a while, or after towing up a grade. Either condition causes coolant temp to rise slightly above 190 on the gauge. After cooling down, noise goes away. EGTs never above 1100. Noise occurs above 2000-2100 RPM or so, and increases in volume as RPMs climb.

Wondering if anyone has any new information on this thread, as it seemed to be getting close.
