New2dodge I had a 99 F-350 powerjunk.

At 5000mi turbo let go

30000 1st transmission

42000 2nd transmission

55000 lost RR leaf springs at 65mph that was fun!

60000 ECM sh^t the bed

2 days later ECM sh^t the bed again

81000 3rd transmission. this one fragged on the 1st to 2nd shift I saw people running for cover.

I sold the truck with 96000 mi on it 2 days later the transmission locked up on the guy he skidded off on the shoulder. If I had known you at the time New2dodge I would have given you that truck. My brother works for ford I can get them $3000 below dealer cost and I drive a Dodge. Good luck!

my 97

187k miles and I've NEVER been stranded due to mechanical failure. Not many other vehicles have this kind of reliability... (I have been stranded from running out of fuel though!) And I've been in 3 moderate (for me) accidents where the other cars had to be towed away.

The brakes have always seemed a bit anemic, but the 1 ton wheel cylinders seemed to help; and she does seem to have more than her fair share of oil leaks, vacuum pump, oil pan, and transmission are all leakin pretty good nowadays, but I really shouldnt complain too much considering the abuse I've meted out to this truck (burn-outs, off roading, drag racing, gross overloading on jobsites, pulling out stuck vehicles in 4low where I'd spin ALL 4 wheels on pavement, heavy towing, commuting... .

And I'm not real good at maintenence intervals either, I've changed the transmission fluid twice, (didnt adjust bands til 175k!) I change the oil ABOUT every 10k miles, I have'nt done ANY of the factory recomended services 'cept for filters (only been through 5 fuel filters so far) I did change the serpentine belt twice, I thought my vacuum pump had failed, but I repaired a rotted hose and it started working again.

My transmission is showing signs of impending doom, but I think that with a new one (ATS) I'll go another 250K easy, without any further major repair costs. Overall, i couldnt have asked for a better vehicle!

i have owned 3 fords before my cummins, ford eat brakes, sensors, computers, and anything else in its path faster t han i can throw down a 6 pack... . im sorry but fords are complete and udder crap. dodges have their flaws, but id much rather be fixing stupid plastic pieced in my interior, than a freaking computer any time of the day. so far my cummins has been fairly trouble free. i do all my maint on it and she has run awesome thus far.

I know it's not a Ram, but. My 93 V6 Dodge Dakota just turned 182,000 miles. I've changed 1 water pump and 1 fuel pump. Never touched the clutch or the rear brakes. Only did the front brakes once. The paint is starting to go to he!!, early 90's paint does that though. I got the truck when I turned 16 brand new, I'm surprised it lasted this long. 16 year old boys are REALLY hard on trucks. 5000rpm clutch drops and "lets see how long I can do a burnout". those were the days... ... . :D

Oh yeah, the cost at Ford is about $250 + $60 to install it.

Funny you say that. Neighbor here working in the oilfields doing jobsite construction just had to foot a $10,500 bill for a new motor because of that exact problem. Truck has about 70,000 - 80,000 miles.

Too bad my Dodge ate a Lift Pump, and Injection pump at that same mileage. LOL, Shoulda got a D-Max. j/k

Actually, speaking if D-Max's, they are fast, but are in need of a Edge Juice, but, we are on our 3rd set of injectors, and 2nd injection pump, and CR's, and we are at 89,000 miles. Lucky for us under warrenty.

My Two Dodge's, are the costliest, biggest POS's ever made,, my '98 Dually blew a motor running 1800*EGT and 45PSI boost for 1 mile (Towing a 49' trailer)

My 4x4 broke a fire ring and I was only running 96PSI boost on it.

I tell you,, Better get a 6. 0,, my Dodge's are falling apart.

(BTW, I know two oil compnaies who have several 6. 0's and out of 15 trucks I can name, only one has not been back in the shop for a new turbo, or injectors. All the other 14 have been in within the first month of ownership, and repeatadly since)

sorry y'all. ever have one of those days and vent in the wrong direction? my 99 2500 is o. k. although it's a ton more powerful and has a much longer rated life, i'm still tring to get used to it(hence the name new2dodge) sorry if i p. o. 'ed anyone. truth be known i defend the cummins every day without fail. ( iwork with ford guys all day!)

p. s. thanks for all the help in the past(and hopefully in the future)

Does anything last forever? I think its amazing I have 170k on my 96. This could be the last truck I'll ever need to buy. Im 41, truck is almost 10yrs old, at the rate of mileage accruing annually I'll be 55 when I cross the 500k mi barrier. If everyone wasnt in such a rush to buy NEW vehicles to stoke their ego/vanity Dodge would go out of business because these trucks can last 20-30 yrs if you take care of them.

IMHO

130K on mine, Lukes Link, Pinion re-build kit, Axel Seals, Lift Pump, Brakes, Tires (of course). Thats about it, with my old 1/2 ton Chevy I had a heck of a lot more repairs and it got 14 MPG. Plus, with this one I can run red fuel, and am saving even more money.

190,000 miles of trouble free driving; it has never failed to start, take me where I want to go and get me home on time.

After getting taken by the dealer on the 30,000 mile service "deal" I joined TDR, obtained the services of Andy Redmond and James Northum to perform the necesssary modifications that DC "forgot" to make it perfect. Nothing except what I consider routine maintenance like the track bar and then the front wheel bearings at 165,000 miles.

Maybe the Rickson 19. 5's shortened the life of the wheel bearings? I dunno. "I am my own warranty station. "

Oh yeah, my headlight switch quit and the little light that says "cruise" went out. Time for a $1 bulb at the dealer and little bit of my time. See ya down the road; I swear the truck runs better now than when I bought it.
