Just returned from a RV trip from my place near Sacramento up to Florence Oregon via I-5... Not nearly as many other similar-sized rigs on the road, but I did run into 4 decent "challenges"...
Late model Ford PS pulling a fiver about same size as ours blows by near the foot of a grade doing more than the 60-65 mph I prefer to drive - then begins to slow as the incline increases... I return his "blowing by" bit as I maintain my speed while he disappears in my rearview mirror.
Later, a new PS pulling a 20 foot gooseneck carrying a couple of 6 foot steel I-beams blasts by near the foot of another grade - driver and passenger smile condescendingly as they pass - but then they get bottlenecked in traffic in their lane as I pass on the right - their lane clears as we go by and they punch it trying to keep up - no luck, and for some strange reason, their smiles are gone. When we crest the top of the grade, they finally manage to pass on the downhill side, but keep their eyes straight ahead as they go by...
Last, on 2 different grades, I spot trucks a ways ahead pulling trailers similar to ours - I speed up to catch them and check out what they are driving - I pass them easily, only to see they are NEW Dodge Cummins rigs... Sorry guys...
A little BOMBing sure spices up a day on the grades...
