My clock spring broke on my truck a few weeks ago. I go into the dealer to set up an appointment. The shop area is viewable from the service desk. I see a Jeep on the rack, the mechanic had just un-bolted the rear dif cover. He grabs a 2 pound hammer and repetedly strikes this cover untill it falls off. He then throws it about four feet to the solvent tank and it bounces out and hits the floor! I tell the service writer that I have a $30,000 truck and am I supposed to let Meatballs like that work on my truck? I left to seek out another "5 STAR"... ..... Chris

I agree with you Motor. You don't use a hammer to remove a differential cover. You use a gasket scraper or screwdiver to gently pry the cover off, being careful not to score or nick the sealing surface.

Just another example of a tech that "couldn't care less" about the customers vehicle. He wasn't tought to remove it that way. I doubt he would remove it that way on his own personal vehicle.

I understand wacking the cover probably wouldn't hurt it, but seeing someone do it that way would still "leave a bad taste in my mouth". Its not the right way to remove it.

Hemi, I even talked to the service mgr. about this and He said that this was accecptable proceedure! (What about the four foot toss!) Like almost everything else done in this world..... Lets see how fast we can do it for the most amount of money... ... Chris:confused:

Heck they don't care, once the warranty runs out it is your problem, as HEMI®Dart stated he wouldn't do it to his car but he is not working on his car or service manager/owner's car.

As far as quick using a scraper or screwdriver would have been quicker than pounding on it.

5 star means they are polite and smile while they are feeding you BS. Dosen't mean they will respect your truck.

Did you read the post where a member followed his truck to back to the garage because of the gopher sqealing his tires, when he got back there a tech was taking a part off his engine to put on another customers truck. I believe that was 5 star dealer.

I never had much luck with dealers service departments but on occasion they would do something right. But I rarely brought vehicle back to dealer unless warranty item.

I decided to take the Mule in for service until the 36,000 mile warranty was over. As I understand it the new generation trucks oil capacity is 10 qt in the oil pan, 1 qt in the filter. I was always charged for 12 qts and when I checked oil it was overfilled. They never took into account that the injector pump holds almost 2 qts and it takes a while for the oil to drain back into oil pan.

Plus this dealer charged by the hour so the labor charge could and was often different every time I took it in( I guess they timed how fast the oil drained out of the pan).

Luckily this has never happened to me. Drop off the truck @ the dealer. Pick up truck in afternnon. You notice it has 15 more miles on the odometer than when you drop it off. Come to find out, a salesman or tech "took it to lunch".

I know it wouldn't hurt anything. But it still would" leave a bad taste in my mouth". :D

Ya know what I mean. :D

One of my suppliers general manager took his mini van (not sure of make) to dealer he would stop by on his way home to see how the repairs were coming and never could find his van on the lot or garage. He finally found out one of the workers was driving it home.

5 stars means poor i think

That was Great Whites truck that they took the parts off of. He uses or use to use the same crappy dealer I bought my truck at. It is (CROWN DODGE IN VENTURA CA. ) the worst 5 star dealer you can find. Once I got a call that my truck was done so my wife dropped me off to pick it up, I sent her home and waited 45 min for them to bring my truck to me. Well the vehicles are parked in the back dirt lot when there done. All of the sudden here comes my truck pulling in the driveway from the street with a yard gang banger driving it. They said it needed to be driven, my butt, why do you need to drive it for an oil change. Oh well my latters have gotten no replies yet but still trying. Late. Dwayne

I'm beggining to think we all got it backwards maybe it is a 1 star dealer we need.

Dwayne hit the nail on the head, the no stars try harder to please, the five stars don't give a crap.

Hey Motorhead,

Other than Paso, what other dealer you taking it to? I don't even think San Luis knows what a diesel is(I got strange gawks from folks around town about my straight pipe back in febuary). I had good results with Iversens in 96-97,but maybe it was because my dad used to worked there back then.
