Low Boost???

I just installed an Isspro 50psi boost gauge on my stock 98. 5. The most boost I'm getting is about 17 according to the gauge. What is a typical max boost figure for a stock engine? I was expecting somewhere around 19-20 psi. I'm trying to get some baselines before making any more mods. Boost source is from the side of the intake manifold ( on engine). No crimps in line but I think I may have possibly overtightened the compression fittings to the source and/or the gauge and crimped the line at this point. All intercooler, inlet hoses, etc. are tight. Any other ideas?????

Bent6, you might spray a bit of sudsy cleaner on your gauge fitting then drive it to see if it's leaking there, to rule that out. Does'nt take a big leak to throw your gauge off. I found a leaky fitting that way, the bubbles are a giveaway. At the other end it might work if you run the engine up past 2000-2500 rpm in neutral, you could blow suds there if it's leaking. I saw 20-21psi boost on my '98. 5 when it was stock.
