the 215 pumps can put out about twice as much fuel as the 180 pump... something isn't right. sounds more like you're not getting enough fuel. check the fuel pressure. could be the overflow valve or the lift pump ( i saw a kid's that ran until he lost prime once from changing a fuel filter and could not get it to reprime... . changed the lift pump out because the old one had a small hole in the diaphram.

I plan on checking my fuel pressure this weekend. I have a extra OF valve I can take apart and stretch and swap to see if that is the problem. Still need to find out where my timing is as well, but I don't know when I'll be able to do that. :confused:

David, I do not blame you in any way for what happened, no hard feelings... . I just know something isn't right with the truck and all the wondering isn't that great. :rolleyes:

Well I got a custom fuel plate from JR Adkins this weekend, popped it in and slight increase but no smoke. A friend of mine with a 95 5spd and 370's with the same plate is FOGGING OUT ROADS! :{

Looks like I'm not getting fuel delivery somewhere.

I never did get around to testing my fuel pressure like I stated above, but looks like I need too. :{

Now see I never had a governor lever prob with my old truck and the plates that were in it were back and forth between centered and full fwd! :confused:

Did you check the adjustment of the governor lever with the new plate?

Just because you did not have to touch it in your old truck doesn't mean much when tinkering with you new one, especially while trying to troubleshoot.

I fully plan to check the govenor lever adjustment when I can find time. JR told me to do so as well. I just ran out of time this weekend, and now I'm working M-F so it will be hard to find time to do it through the week.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

If you are just getting a light haze, you arn't getting enough fuel. Even with twins under hard pedal I smoke black until about 60# of boost, then things start to clear. Get a #10 plate adjust the gov. arm and have fun.

I have a custom plate now, so no need for a #10. I just need to figure out my fuel issue now. :{

did you try lengthening the spring in the overflow valve? 10 mins, maybe you'll find fuel pressure is low. . :confused: Oo.

I have an extra OF valve lying around that I'm going to make into a fuel pressure gauge. How long is the OF valve spring supposed to be? . 5" is what comes to mind. :confused:

Keep us posted on what you find, as it might clue me in on what my problem/problems are. Do you have any other problems other than lower than expected power, such as missing, stumbling, white smoke, ect. ? Jordan

My girlfriend's brother truck pulls with his 97 (215) and he bought big injectors and dv's at the same time. He installed the injectors but not the dv's. Took it to the pull and did worse with the big injectors than he did with his stock injectors. There was almost no smoke and he said it felt down on power. Took it back to the shop and stuck in the dv's later on that week. THe next weekend he pulled again and won. He was pouring smoke and it actually sounded meaner. He tore up the track against most of the same guys that he lost to the week before with only the injectors in. Just a thought.

Mark... ... ... ... Most of the trucks around here are running 20-25 degrees. Timing is not your issue. Fuel supply. Have you checked the screen in the tank? The lift pump and and the OF valve are the most likely problems. Jeff tuned on 2 12V's yesterday. Both are over 520 HP and plenty of fuel. Both do have pusher pumps, though.

Take a break and drive down for a visit. It will be worth your time.

Bye Now

Maybe Diesel Dynamics. He told me a few months ago but I can't remember what brand they are. Does DD make a set comparable to the 370's with less smoke?

DD3's are within a few HP of a 370 and they are cleaner burning.
