OK My fuel pres. gauge finally came in today. After I installed it, I got 11 at idle, 7-8 at cruise, and 1 at WOT. Then I went back and change the fuel filter ( which was only 6-7k old) and got 12 at idle ,8 at cruise and 2 at WOT. What do you guys think? New pump? The banjo bolt mod is my next step. Would someone please post the drill size specs?

TIA

Tom

If you don't have any engine stumble @ WOT, or notice a decrease in fueling @WOT, you guys are probably okay. 1-2 psi's is below what I would want in my truck, but the decision is really up to you as I believe they will not warranty a new lift pump if you are seeing 11-12 psi's @ idle. Guess you could try, though, I've heard that a complaint of difficult starting may get some action in regards to a warranty replacement.

I would not add any type of fueling boxes or larger injectors with those readings, would probably drag you down to 0 psi's real quick. I would strongly consider either A). drilling out those banjo bolts or B) going with a new fuel line system that removes the banjo's entirely, that would surely help .

Just my opinion with my limited experience, so take it for what it's worth. Again, maybe a more experienced TDR member can jump in here for his/her viewpoint.

When my Carter was showing 0-1 psi's @ WOT, I swapped it out for the Mallory 4150 pump, which was then located back where a lift pump should be, adjacent to the fuel tank and below same. One thing we have found out is that lift pumps are happier pushing the fuel forward, rather than pulling it forward. Hope this helps.

Scott,

Thanks for the input. I already have an EZ and BD-1s. DTT TC & VB are sitting on the garage floor if I ever find time to install them. I'm going to order some bolts from Ray Torreseli(sp?). For $15 + shipping, you can't beat it. We'll try that and then see where we go from there. Nice thing about the gauge is, now I can keep an eye on the d*mn thing. The lift pump that is.

Fuel Pressure ..so far so good

Had mine checked while they were replacing the output shaft seal (for the 2nd time)

18,750 miles on truck - PE on for about 15,000 of those miles constantly "on".

  • 12 PSI - idle
  • 9 PSI -WOT
  • ½ PSI drop across the filter

Keep in mind this is with all mods "off" the engine. I took the PE off when i took it in for work the first time (bout 2 weeks ago). The tech(not the service advisor) told me if they see a "chip" they have to call Chrysler.

So I feel better... ... . for now (not that I am worried bout it anyhow).
