Anyone else have an oil leak at 10,000 miles?

With my first sending unit the low fuel light would come on with 7-9 gal. left in the tank. Since I had it changed it comes on with about 3 gal. left. I watch the mileage now instead of the fuel guage.

I disagree, but you may be right, but even a little is too much for me... it won't happen to my Ram! Some guys go 10,000 miles between oil changes with conventional oil... they seem to be doing fine. That ain't gonna happen to my Ram, either!

Well, I do agree with you that even a little is too much! It's best to keep an eye on the fuel guage if for no other reason, you may run out miles from anywhere or in one of those "bad" parts of town, etc. And yes, the potential for damage does increase by running your pump dry, probably even for the P7100.

Basically, what I was getting at was that running out of fuel, while a major pain in the butt, is unlikely to be the end of your engine, or pump. Now, as Dennis pointed out, running out during a heavy pull, thereby losing oil to your turbo, well, I can see a much bigger potential for damage there.

Anyway, if you're the type who's inclined to run the tank down to the "E" mark, it'd be a good idea to carry a wrench or two to be able to bleed the lines. Personally, I start looking for fuel when I hit 1/4 tank, that way I know I've got enough...

Low fuel comes on with about 9-10 gallons left. Distance to Empty is right on the money. When it hits zero I have 5 gallons left. Your truck is very normal.
