I crawled under my truck the other day to change the oil for the first time and noticed the oil pan seems to be the lowest thing on the underside of the vehicle (least ground clearance) and DC did not equip the truck with a rock guard. My truck is a two wheel drive, just wondered if there is a company that makes a rock guard to protect the oil pan? I live across a 40 ft. wide creek and sometimes it gets badly rutted, sometimes big rocks are washed down onto the crossing... I'd hate to lose an oil pan or an engine!

Yeah I know what you mean. My truck is a 4x4 and the bottom of the oil pan is banged up from the front axle sliding over hard obstacles, then the oil pan landing on the obstacle! I might have to fabricate something for myself so I don't rip the pan open.
This is the same reason I don't think those trick drain plugs from Geno's is a good idea. I's not that I could accidentally open the valve... it's that I could easily shear off the whole plug from the pan.

Mike, the Femco/Geno's Garage EZ Drain, drain plug does not protrude more than approximately 3/16" below the OE drain plug. Sure, it's a little lower however, I feel the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Heck, that's one of the only accessories I would purchase again (in a heartbeat!) if I purchased a new Ram. #ad

Nah,not worth the risk for me. I have hit more than one tree stump and such in slush pits while wheelin'. 3/16in would be enough for me to catch on something.

I saw the plug in Genos garage publication. I didn't like the look of it either for off road use. Any thing could knock into that lever. For trucks that run strictly on road I think it would be great.
For guards look around the internet or town for 4x4 place. They should have catalog.

Missouri Mule, I wasn't referring to the Geno's Drain plug with the lever. I said, the EZ DRAIN, drain plug (i. e. , the one that uses the screw in drain hose). The brass protective cap is all that hangs down... very low profile, and properly engineered (unlike the POS Cummins drain plug).

... one of these days Mike I'm going to have to see your definition of four wheelin'... logging roads? Your paint and rocker panels tell the tale. #ad
