Just picked up the 03 tonight and on the way home from the dealer noticed the oil pressure drops to about 20psi ( halfway between the 40 mark and 0?) Is this something I need to have checked right away? Checked my 02 and it maintains 40 psi at idel.

If you do a search you'll find lots of info on this one. It turns out our gage is fake, just a show put on by the computer. It look like Dodge is trying to follow in ferds foot steps.

Just for fun, pull the sending unit wire off and you will see the gauge reads exactly the same!!!

The gauge is connected to a switch. If the pressure is between 6 psi and 75 psi, the computer just makes the needle dance "to comply with customer expectations".

My personal expectations are an oil pressure gauge that actually reads pressure. According to Dodge, I'm wrong about my expectations.

I installed an aftermarket oil pressure gauge for peace of mind. I feel much better now. :)

It seems the dodge truck isn't the only dodge vehicle that is like that. My wife "had" a dodge car that even when it liked itself, cracked the head in two places, and with all the water gone, still read normal. Just a side note, after it was repaired the head mechanic came up to me and said he had never seen a engine in such bad shape not seize-up. He ask what type of synthetic oil I was using, I told him AMSOIL, SHOOK HIS HEAD AND SAID HE THOUGHT SOOo.
