I have a 1996 2500 w/auto trans 3. 54 rear end. My truck seems to have less power than it use too and I have noticed the rpm's will not go higher than 2500 on the road and about 2600 rpm in sitting still. i have never checked to see how high thew rpm would go until i noticed a loss of power. Any ideas out there? Thanks.

Check to see if your throttle is going all the way open. Could be the cable is loose, loose or missing bolt on the bell crank or the linkage binding or broken.

How about the simple things? ;)

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter and cleaned the pre-heater strainer? Does the filterminder on the air filter housing show any restriction? How many miles are on the truck and have you ever had the valves adjusted? I wouldn't worry about the RPMs, some people's trucks have always only gone to 2500-2600rpm, others have gone higher.

I'd also check the rubber hose going to the wastegate from the AFC. If this has come loose or is cracked then your power will be WAY down (been there, done that. :D)

Another thing to check are all of the intake hoses and clamps, from the turbo al the way to the intake. A loose clamp or bad hose causing a loss of boost pressure will definitely cause a loss in power.

Start with the simple things first and go from there. How is your fuel mileage compared to before, if you keep track?

had the same problem and it was the overflow valve. It can be opened up and the spring streched to . 550 and if that solves the problem replace the valve.
