Low power at WOT, had to replace lift pump

Just an FYI. My 92 W-250 was running funny for a little while, occasional but brief loss of power, then last week it started losing power at WOT. The next day it would not get up over about 60 MPH. It would run fine 45MPH and under though.



I changed filters (air/fuel), Checked the intercooler and hoses for leaks, and adjusted the valves. Checking the performance after each round. Finnally decided to change the lift pump, even though pumping it by hand still produced a stream of fuel to the filter. This fixed the problem for me.



BTW, I didn't really adjust the valves, I only had to check them. All of them were still in spec and I haven't done them for about 75K miles. I used to do them once a year but I got lazy

You got a fuel pressure gauge on that beast? If not, I highly recommend dropping $150 for the gauge and install hardware. You never know when a line is going to collapse or wear a hole, a lift pump go out, or you get bad fuel. A gauge will tell you there is a problem and you can fix it before it really cost you. It's a good investment.

Sadly, I am completely gaugeless. I've thought about doing it many times but the only mod I have is a 4" exhaust. I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to keep it either. Mechanically the truck is excellent (I almost used the word flawless, but I didn't want to jinx it), but the rust is getting more challenging to keep up with these days :-(

Still have the old pump? Can you hacksaw the crimping band off, take it apart and let us know what you find for a failure mode?
