Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) low power

I posted yesterday about my tach not working and the check engine light coming on, well it did it today and the tach stayed down at zero for about a minute or so and during that time the truck hardly had any power. Could this be the tach sensor as Larry suggested(Thanks Larry), but he said when his tach dropped the truck revved up on its own which mine does not. Could it be the same problem though? Any Info greatly appreciated!!!

Yes you will have to move the starter out of the way

It depends what year your truck is. Mine is a 2001 and it does not have a crank position sensor, instead it has a cam position sensor. It's still not real easy to get out but you don't have to remove the starter to get at it

its easier to remove crank angle sensor than cam pos sensor. That cam sensor is right behind the VP 44 and man is it a pain. i think that when i put that in i taped it to the shivle socket, then used a right angle motorized rachet. the crank sensor is a breeze. just pull the three bolts that take a 10 mm 12 point closed end wrench and its right there.

Thanks for the help everybody, looks like I get to spend part of the holiday weekend pulling the starter off just to do a 5 min job. Hopefully it won't be too complicated!!!

Pulling the starter is REAL easy - won't take more than 5-10 minutes. You will need a 12 pt socket for the starter bolts. Don't forget to disconnect the batteries first - it can be exciting if you forget .
