Hey guys-

I am taking my truck and my 03 Honda 400ex to glamis this year with some people for thanksgiving. Sounds like some fun :)

I'd like to get a good quality basic GPS that will tell me MPH, give me coordinates and saves a few old coordinates. I have never used a hand held GPS before and kind of clueless on some of the options. Does these GPS save old locations and gives directions on how far and what direction to go to reach saved coordinates (camp)? I dont want something to expensive (under 150 -200 bucks). I just want something basic, I wont be using it all that often and if it breaks I wont be too upset.

I saw a few on Ebay like the Garmin eTrex and Magellan Explorer foir under 150, any experiance with those??

Thanks

Erik

Be careful, they have a computer in them  ;)

I have had the Etrex for 6 years and it has never let me down. I paid $99 for it. It will give you coordinates, speed, altitude, sunset and sunrise times. You can store your present location or type in a location you would like to go to.

It has a port on it that you can connect to a PC but I have never used it.

Cool thanks, what series is it? I noticed that the germin explorer 300 has temp and elevation which is neat too.

Ya, i dont mind the computers in the GPS unit, if it lasts 3 years it was 150 bucks, ill be ready to get a new one. I dont need it to last forever like my truck :)

I have two GPSs, both Garmin. Most basic models do what you are asking. A good source is GPSCity in Nev. and they have good prices. Do a Google search. There are a lot of different models and features.

Cary

If your taking it with you on the 4 wheeler, The Garmin Etrex is a nice option. Mine survived a 500 mile pounding out in Colorado, strapped to the handlebar of my Suzuki drz400. It's a tough/simple unit.

I have the E trex also for the exact same reason you are wanting one. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on one and then break it if I hit a witches eye. #@$%! It is a solid, dependable unit.

Once you purchase one, log on to Glamis.org and you can go ahead and input the furnished coordinates of places in the dunes into your unit before you even leave the house.
