smoking,

Yes, -3db is half as loud, but look at it like this: (in 3db increments)

-3db=1/2

-6db=1/4

-9db=1/8

-12db=1/16

-15db=1/32

each 3db increment reduces the level in half. (ok, I missed the 15 db piont, its 1/32, not 1/35.

No it's not as good for our motors as the 500PPM fuel we are used to.

First, the sulfur reducing process removes aromatics which are naturally found there. This reduces the BTU or energy density of the fuel by 2 to 3% and lubricity.

Second, you have to burn (waste) more fuel at greater expense to you and other working families.

Third, this is nothing more than a scam brought on us by are ecowhackos suing the EPA (again at your expense), and them forcing the oil companies to comply and, you guessed it, you pay again!

And fourth, it does nothing to improve the air because the extra fuel you burn (waste) is adding more of other pollutants to the atmosphere.

Unless and until they figure out that gas and diesel engines are different (gas=high CO2, low NOX, diesel, high NOX, low CO2) and stop pursuing this insane preoccupation with NOX-get ready for more in 2010. This is a no brainer guys, we are gettin screwed

Sorry to be the heavy. M.

Yeah I can see what you mean, its been ten ++ years since high school physics. I was assuming that the volume difference was around 10 dB, but I have not measured the actual difference. My radio is now set at 28 (out of max of 50) compared to when I bought it last year and had to have the radio set at 40. My hearing is tested every year so I know that my hearing capacity has not changed.

The one thing that really lowered the volume was running Bio, B99. 9. My wife even asked what I did to make my truck quiet. :). Sorry I have not measured the actual difference, but if I get ahold of a dB meter I will take some measurements and post.

Thanks Snoking for reminding me how big of a difference the volume difference is. I still like my truck nice and loud, enjoy the rattle.

Yeah, screw the additives (they have their place, like removing water, and to kill bacteria, etc).

I just put some bio in the tank now and again, and it runs quieter and smoother. When I stop smelling the bio when I fill up, I know it's time to add more! Not scientific, and it's pretty darn easy to SMELL the difference when you have bio in there.

Btw, if the soot we blow out the tailpipe is mainly based (or at least made a lot worse) by the sulfur, then get rid of it! A little bio will do a lot more for lubing everything then the sulfur EVER could.

Btw, they want to lower the sulfur so they can effectively run catalytic convertors on these engines. Sulfur kills them, so getting rid of sulfur allows the mfgs to run the cats (or at least ones much better then we have used so far).

This whole sulfur deal reminds me of fluoride in our drinking water. What a CROCK!

The real gist is they would have to pay a lot more to get it out (it IS a poison to us after all), so instead the tout it as a great thing to help our teeth. BS! It does more harm then help. This sulfur thing stinks of the same thing.

Either way, it costs us more, no matter what. It's just a damn excuse for higher prices (like they need excuses).

the numbers are in and the mileage is unchanged, which actually ain't a bad thing as i have been hammering on it more then usual with the improved spool up and power from the exhaust change, so id say ulsd ain't that bad for mileage

guess ill find out as i just pumped my first tank sunday, a shade over 30 gallons at $2. 469 (cheepest diesel i've put in this truck since i bought it almost a year and 12k miles ago) id love to know exactly what it's going to do to my mpg but i just installed 4" straight pipes so i won't know positive as i am sure the pipes are worth a little over stock

Sulfur is not a lube. The process to remove Sulfur removes the lubes! So they add it back in. SNOKING

I used to think the same thing, right about the time when unlead gas came out. It seemed every car sold in America was de-tuned and de-horse powered. Oh man, the sky was falling. The cars got worse fuel mileage with the cat's and EGR pumps and lower compression ratios and vacuum hoses running all over and they cost more and the fuel cost more they were actually polluting worse and .....

Now hardly anyone thinks about it in the those terms. The carmakers have stepped up to the plate and made many very good improvements. I mean, today a sporty 300+ Hp is not all that uncommon with good fuel efficientcy meeting all the EPA emission requirements.

Its just the process we have to go through. Have some patience. :)
