2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Low voltage reading

I recently installed new batteries in my 98 1/2 slush bucket 2500. A couple days later when I started it early in the morning, the voltage reading wouldn't come above approx. 10 volts. I shut it off, restarted and same thing so I headed to my son's home 80 mile away. It stayed at the 10 volt reading all the way. After starting it again at his house, the meter came back to it's normal 14 volt reading. The more I thought about it the more I think the fuel heater stayed on as that's about the voltage it normally shows till it has cycled a few times after starting. Is this possible or does someone know what's going on. It seems to start normally now, and the heater seems to work OK.

I have the same thing happen to me when I start the truck in the AM, the meter is low, then it shoots right up after 10 seconds

on the same token are there any electrical connections that could possibly be corroded ? I have noticed on my 99 2500 that on a cold morning it takes a little longer than usual for things to come together. and if there are elect. connections where might they be Thanks Don
